electronica sings the blues,

Splattercell creates an atmosphere of organic chunks reminiscent of Howlin' Wolf, Headhunters, Captain Beefheart, and Mr.Soul himself: Ike Hayes with the digital skills that have been brewing in the electronica community(aphex twin,we,squarepusher,Dr.octagon etc.). it breathes new life and a new idea of organic musicality into loop-based funk grooves (still breakbeat and bass heavy, mind you). while some of the remixes venture into the hyper/progressive/experimental/mad scientist ambient realms (sakamoto, yoshihiro hanno),the Charlie Clouser (nine inch nails) and Dan the Automator mixes are perfect for the decks (yes turntables)for laidback handsome boy crushed velvet smoking jacket love potion hot tub land. a truly diverse remix disk. i am so thoroughly impressed and want more. now.cannot wait for the full Splattercell album. recommended for anyone who....

I learned of David Torn's existence around 1998, but only had a smattering of his available CDs for the past 10 years. I decided to "fill in" my collection beginning in the fall of 2008. All of his work offers interesting songs, soundscapes and excellent musicianship. This Splattercell album is a re-mix album that was released prior to the OAH album. Personally, I do prefer OAH, but find Is Love (this album) very compelling. The musicians who remixed tracks from OAH did an excellent job. Robby Aceto's vocals 'make this album' for me. Totally worth purchasing both CDs when they can be found.

Aural Attack on your ears!,

This is one of the best electronic albums I've heard in a long time. With such a collection of incredible musicians who have been selected to create their own mixes of the music from Splattercell. I would highly recommend this album to any of my friends and anyone who is interested in hearing an aural attack on your ears

it's okay, the origional is better,

It's a remix. Sometimes remixes end up being better than the original . . . not here. Some of these are choice, but it seems that each of these artists chose to remix the same song. So, as an album, it doesn't work. As a collection of singles to be intermittently listened too while being mixed in among similar songs to accommodate a week of listening pleasure, much more effective. Even then, one or two of these songs are about as enjoyable as a hangover, but there is this wonderful ability we have with digital technology . . . skip it.
