Can't beat it,

This review is from: Remington DA307 Dual Microscreen Foil Men's Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I own several shavers. The Remington DA307 is one of them.
I have been shaving for about 50 years, and in that time have used about 15 or 20 different electric shavers. I have used safety razors like Gilettes occasionally when in foreign countries where the electric shavers wouldn't work. I much prefer electrics to razors. First a couple of recommendations. 1. All of the name brands offer 30-day money-back guarantees on their shavers. So try how ever many you like until you find one that suits you. Not everyone's beard is the same, so a shaver that works well for some people may not work well for you. Remington lets you return the shaver to the retail store from which you purchased the shaver, which is convenient if you purchased it from a local store. All of the others make you send it back to some central company location, which makes returning a shaver a bit inconvenient. Also keep in mind that shaver companies put out "lemons" just like car makers. I once bought a Norelco that would hardly run. I think it was a defective 120/240 voltage choice switch. 2. Before you shave, wash your face and apply some baby powder to the area being shaved. Washing removes fine grit that has adhered to your face and makes the cutter and foil last longer. The powder helps the shaver glide over your face. The Remington DA307 that I own is the blue model that preceded the current black model. As far as I can tell the color is the only difference. I also own a DA407, which is essentially the same except that it is cord/cordless, which means that if the battery is low, it can be plugged in and used without recharging. I have had the DA407 about ten or fifteen years and it still works fine except the batteries have deteriorated to the point that I just use it plugged in all the time. The DA307 cannot be used after the battery runs down until it has been recharged. A full recharge takes about eight hours; however, you can shave after charging it only about 30 minutes. This is one of the shortcomings of the DA307. The DA307 shaves fast and close with minimum irritation. I have an average beard with slightly curly whiskers. That brings up the other shortcoming of the DA307 - it doesn't have a central slotted head that helps pick up slightly curly hairs, so every couple of days I have to look closely for curly hairs that it has missed. I then cut them with the trimmer and polish them off with the foil cutters. The trimmer works well for that purpose and for trimming side burns and nose hairs. By the way, the central slotted heads don't get all the curly hairs, so I still have to do the trimmer thing with them too. Now a couple comparisons to two other shavers I own or have owned recently. I own a top of the line Panasonic shaver. It shaves very slightly closer than the DA307, but it takes longer. It takes me about five minutes to shave with the DA307 and seven minutes with the Panasonic. From the outside, the foils on the Panasonic look almost as long as the DA307, but when you remove the foil head for cleaning, you see that the cutters are only about 2/3 as long as the foil. That must be why it's slower. The Panasonic has a center slotted head, which is good. The replacement foils and cutters for the Panasonic cost about $45 - more than the cost of the DA307. Replacement cutters and foil cost about $20 for the DA307 - makes you ponder whether to buy a new shaver or new cutters and foil. I recently gave a barely used Braun to Good Will. I bought it when I forgot my Remington on a trip. It was one of Braun's cheaper models - about $45. It wasn't nearly as good as the DA307, which costs less than $30. Finally, some general observations. Tilting, swiveling heads are just sales features. They don't do a thing for improving shaving. All foil shavers vibrate a little, so I see no sense in the new sales claim of Braun and Panasonic that their shavers have vibrating screens. The DA307 probably vibrates a little more than most, but I don't consider that significant. Cleaning stands are a waste. Just brushing out the whiskers is all that is needed, and you don't have this humongous thing sitting on the counter whirring away and consuming expensive cleaning solution. By the way, an old toothbrush works better for brushing out the whiskers than the puny brush they all provide. Just don't pick it up and brush your teeth with it by mistake like I did a couple of times (bleah). Charging stands are a waste too. I like foil shavers better than rotary, but as I said, everyone's beard is different.

I purchased about 9 months ago and have used it every day since..It replaced my Gillette cheapo electric razor I got for $30. That one was a rotary/3 circular blades model. I figured, why not try a foil kind, it seems fun, and was about the same price. It works okay on the face, but down by the chin and neck is where the problems come in. It really does not handle that well, and I find myself using a standard razor to shave about once a week because it just doesn't do a good job. Once the hairs grow more then stubble it misses entirely. The little pop up attachment is a hassle to get all the neck hairs too.
Maybe it's just not great for me, but I would say if you are debating between this and that Gillette, go with the Gillette, which I only replaced because I needed to replace the blades and this was the same price as a new one entirely.

This is my second Remington DA307. The first one I inherited from my father and he had had it for several years. The battery continues to work well even after more than 10 years. The weak point of these razors is the screen. Being so thin to give very close shaves also makes it liable to break if not handled carefully. That's what happened to the first one and it was almost the same price to buy a new DA307 than to replace the screen and blade.

I have relatively little facial hair and wanted to get an electric razor to save money from buying expensive blades that also take longer to shave. I got this at Wal-Mart for the same price and absolutely love it. I shave with it everyday for about 2 minutes and it feels just about the same as a normal razor. I wouldnt recommend it for those of you with longer facial hair, but it works great for what I got.
I love it for its ease of use, price and results. Highly recommended.

I previously owned a DA307 for a number of years and was very happy with its performance. However, the battery eventually died during a trip where I did not keep it plugged in and charged up. I needed a replacement quickly. I purchased one of the newer Remington F models and was not at all satisfied with its performance. I returned it immediately and began a search for another DA307. I was very happy to find one through Amazon at Shaver World and am a happy camper again. Thanks Amazon and Shaver World!

My husband dropped his old shaver many times and it really needed to be replaced. He wanted the same model which is what I bought him. When he started using it he couldn't believe how great it worked. I guess he went awhile with the old one not working so great and he was surprised the power he had in the new one. I'm glad I was able to get the same model.

I'm sixty one years of age, fair skinned, moderately sensitive, and grow an average density beard. Because I dislike shaving I wore beard for most of my adult life only shaving my neck to keep hairs from getting snagged in my shirt collar. In October of last year I began shaving all of my face, leaving just a mustache. Obviously, this made the performance of my shaver a much more important issue than just shaving my neck. My electric shavers have always been foil type shavers, mostly Remingtons, and the most recent was a DA 307 purchased in March of 2010 at a cost of about $34.95. I have just re-learned that, yes, you get what you pay for in an electric shaver.
Recently the DA 307 began making black streaks on my face. The shave quality was never very good, but as good as I had been used to through the years. Seven or eight minutes per session was the norm and my neck always still had stubble. The black was coming from the little black plastic bar that divides the foil heads. I cleaned the little bar daily but it continued to rub off on my face. That was the last straw. Last week I decided to do some research and buy my first really GOOD electric shaver in 46 years of shaving. After some serious on-line research I ended up buying a Panasonic ES 8243 A, a GREAT decision on my part, and yes, I paid three times more for the Panasonic, but NOW I know what a good shave is like. You can read my ES 8243 review here on Amazon. Cheap is Cheap.
