It did a good job of lighting up a windowless bassement, size about 20 x 22, with a bright white light.

There is no upper reflector inside the globe, so hanging it above you doesn't cast a lot of light below.
Marcus
The lantern is quite heavy and feels sturdy, and is very bright, but the clear glass lamp was a mistake.

This LED lantern is one of the brighter ones available using four D-cell batteries. It puts out about 300 lumens and will run for 80 hours. The LED should never burn out in typical use. Like most other LED lanterns, it produces a somewhat unnatural blue-white light.

This lantern is adequate for lighting up a small area, but it puts out less than half the light of a regular 60-watt light bulb and only about a third of the light of a two-mantle propane lantern.

The included card says it has a lifetime warranty, but no contact information is given for returning it for service to the manufacturer. (The Remington name is just licensed, they don't make the lantern.) It also strangely arrived inside the shipping box in just a plastic bag.

The lantern operates with a push button and has two brightness settings. It is a full size lantern at about 10" tall, and about 14" with the handle extended. The handle has a fold-away hook for hanging. The globe seems to be a hard, scratch-resistant plastic, not glass. The globe is protected from bumps and scratches by three vertical aluminum slats. To replace the batteries, you screw off the bottom cover, and open the lid to the battery compartment.

The inner cylindrical tube around the bright LED is not frosted and has a number of odd bands around it. Apparently, the bands are supposed to distribute the light better, but instead they cause the light to be very uneven. The central band also causes a rainbow prism effect in one narrow area. It is also uncomfortable to look directly at the LED. There is no upper reflector inside the globe, so hanging it above you doesn't cast a lot of light below. The three vertical aluminum globe guards and the internal metal supports for the LED tube cause shadows.

A good step up from the smaller "AA" sized lanterns this guy is rated at 6W worth of output and does a great job of putting out a lot of light. Four D batteries ought to last more than 24 hours on high and in testing the lantern still was putting out about half light after 30 hours. Lights up a tent very well. There is a lower power setting that dims the output some and will save power too. Far safer than propane or white gas the lantern is tent and child safe. The lantern is well constructed of plastic and aluminum and comes with a handy hanging hook. I would have rated it five stars but the light output is un-even with hot spots here and there, a frosted globe would even those out.

I bought this lantern primarily for use in power outages and secondarily for car-camping on occasion. I haven't had the opportunity to truly test this lantern during a power outage but have turned it on when the house was dark. The power button is a little hard to push. There are 2 power settings - low and high - and the light is fairly bright at both levels. One reviewer noted that the light is harsh - I can see what they mean, but I wanted a light that is bright enough for a little reading when the power is out - this lantern will do the job. The light was plenty sufficient to allow me to take my contact lenses in and out - something that has been a challenge to do when I only had a flashlight in previous outages. It may be a little too bright for use in a small tent. The light is very similar to a standard Coleman gas lantern. It is fairly compact and hefty and seems sturdy, with metal "guards" that I guess are designed to protect the globe if it gets knocked over. There's not much more I can say about it until I truly use it and can judge battery life, etc., but it was all that I expected so far.

Best Led Lantern I've gotten, But I wish it had more functions to the switch then just high or low, a bright strobe function and a battery level indicator would be cool!!!
