Close shave for a lighter price.,
By Arvind "ARK" (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
The Remington MS2-370 is a pretty decent shaver for the price at which I bought it (under USD 30.00) and is certainly more than I asked for in my first shaver. I have been a life-long follower of Gillette, with the Mach-3 being my blade of choice for as long as it has existed in the markets. However, I did want to move to a shaver that would 'shave' a few minutes off my daily morning ablutions and the electric shaver was just what the doctor ordered.
When I first tried the MS2-370, I used a face powder that is recommended with the shaver. The effect was a close and more importantly, irritation-free shave. There are certain things you want to know about this shaver - use it on dry skin conditions in the morning - stretch your skin with your hands to facilitate the hair blades' entry into the shaver - DO NOT press the shaver to your skin (gives you burnt skin) - using it with the powder reduces (if not eliminates) skin burn - some hair blades are stubborn and will stay fully bent (parallel to the skin) and hence, cannot be shaved by the shaver - the battery life is quite decent: on my first charge, I was able to get about 8-9 shaves For this price, I think this is a good buy. As a starter, I am certainly comfortable with electric shavers and expect that within a few months, I will be ready to upgrade to the USD 100+ Brauns or other brands after some research. Happy shopping !

Good Shaver,
By Paul (TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
This is a good shaver, no questions about it. If the battery stops working, you can use it with the cord. I have owned this shaver for about 3 years and I've only had to replace the blades once. There is a little technique to using an electric shaver (primarily getting the hairs inside the grill), but it does a fine job. If you shave every morning, there is never any problems. If your facial hair gets longer, the built in cutter has a setting that makes it even with the shaver so you can get most of it in one pass.
The battery has died after 3 years, but thats expected. Corded works great for me, but then again I'm not stretching the cord more than 3 feet.

Overall performance is so-so, but the rechargerable battery has really limited capacity. Had better keep it plugged in even when you are not using (you will notice it produces a lot of heat when you recharge it, I am not sure whether this is normal or not).

Amazon is currently offering this Remington at the same price as a replacement foil for my Braun. Since foils are lasting me no more than six months, I'm "auditioning" this Remington rather than purchasing the part. After six months I'll know better which foil I want to replace. So far the Remington has the edge--the shave is just as close as the Braun, it's faster, its more ergonomically designed, the trimmer is more practical. On the downside, the Remington's high-pitched buzz is a bit noisier, but who couldn't use some additional help waking up? And perhaps the battery doesn't last for as many shaves, but I leave the shaver plugged in so that's really no concern. So it looks like Remington will get my foil vote. On the other hand, with the rising cost of replacement parts and the deals on new shavers, it may be more cost effective to order a new shaver--maybe a Norelco (even though the latter is shaped more like grail than a lance--not reassuring to the male ego.) If nothing else, this is becoming an interesting research project, an extra incentive to get up in the morning.
[Since writing the above, I see that Amazon has increased the price by thirty percent, still twenty-five percent under the cost of my Braun and at a deep discount from the retail price. My Braun, moreover, has only a single screen. So my recommendation remains Remington--still handily outclassing its competitors in this price range.]

I've had 3 different electrics in my life. The last one was a Braun. When the foil broke, it was more practical for me to buy an entirely new razor rather than the replacement foil and blade.
I've read a couple negative reviews on this Remington and I can only picture these people sitting in the bathroom trying to shave their faces using their feet. This shaver is awesome. The 8500 Rpms make it a quick shave and it's also the closest one I've ever felt. I've read 3 different complaints about this and I am here to dispel them: 1) It's a tad bit noisy. -Yes, it's a slightly more present low hum. Who cares? It's not nails on a chalkboard and the louder sound can probably be attributed to a more powerful motor. 2) The side burntrimmer is useless. -For sideburns it is a bit trickier to use, but it's good for when your stubble gets out of control. The trimmer is positioned adjacent to the foils. The trimmer first cuts down the stubble which then easily feeds into the razor, thereby circumventing a step in the shaving/trimming process. 3) The low battery light is on almost immediately after charging. -Yes, that is slightly annoying, but nothing I didn't forget about after using it once. Good buy.

This razor does an adequate if unremarkable job of shaving your face. The battery recharge life is the shortest of any electric razor I have ever owned - after three shaves you definitely need to recharge. The darn thing even quit mid shave on me once - not a thrill when you are getting ready for work in the morning. It's also by far the loudest electric razor I ever heard. If you can live with the noise and constant charging then it's okay for the price. Personally I doubt I will wait too long before I replace it with a higher quality razor. I'd have given only 1 star if the price wasn't so low. I shouldn't have been so cheap & gotten something better to begin with!

Do Not Buy - Screens don't last!,
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
I gave up on this one and Remmington after 20 years. This series of razors: The screens will rip out in about 1 to 2 months. After 3 set of screens/ blades I quit before I spent more than the total cost of the razor. This is the second Remmington razor that I have been disappointed in within two years. I have moved over to Norelco at WalMart and that bushwacker has held up over a year and just bought the new three circular blade model for my motorhome for only $25 and has as close of shave as the Remmington.

unreal for price,
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
Electric shavers are always a bit touch-and-go. Even some of the expensive ones don't give too close of a shave. This is the first linear electric I've used (usually use rotary), and I'm going to stick with it. It's faster and a closer shave than I have previously had and is great for quick shaves before going out for the night. The trimmer takes a little playing with to get used to, both for sideburns and for long hair. Also, this shaver is louder than others I have used and vibrates a bit. Furthermore, more hairs fall out of this than my old rotaries, so you probably want to shave over a sink if you don't already. All fairly minor grievances though, and it's a great shave for $26.

not good enough,
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
i bought this shaver because i had had several of the round blade shavers in the past, and had good experiences shaving with the microfoil style in the past. however, when i shaved for the first time, i was very dissappointed. for some reason, the shaver seems to cut 9 of 10 hairs in any particular area, leaving very sparse untouched hairs all over my face. after going over and over my face for close to 10 minutes, the hairs were never cut. I had to finish it off with a disposable razor. having experience with many other electric shavers, i dont think my technique was lacking.
Also, this shaver seems extraordinarily loud. dont plan to use it while your roommates or neighbors are sleeping. I wanted to return this item, but apparently my packing slip was thrown away...

Battery Charging Problems,
This review is from: Remington MS2-370 Titanium MicroScreen 2 Screen Shaver (Health and Beauty)
This would have been a great shaver, especcially for traveling , if it were not for two big problems.
First, the battery does not always seem to hold a charge. On my last vacation I had to recharge the shaver 3 times in 1 week! Even after a full charge I would go to use it the next day and it would be totally drained! Second problem is the useless cover that is supposed to protect the head when not in use and when traveling. It is very loose fitting and does not stay on and this is a real problem. Even at the low price paid I would not recommend it. I am eventually going to have to replace it. A real shame... |
