I returned it!,

I have been using Norelco for 38 years (followed my Grandfather and Dad). But the last $50 Norelco was not that good, so I tried the Titanium Ultra R-9170. Right from the start I had problems -- very poor design: hard to turn on (often takes several times) and it's awkward to remove the top for cleaning. Plus the hinge will probably break. And that's the good news. Now for the bad -- the R-9170 does not come close to Norelco's for a close shave. Even shaving longer does not help. Plus, the after shave irritation alone deserves a return. The R-9170 cost more than the $50 Norelco and I'll take that crummy Norelco anyday!

I have had several electric razors over the years some expensive and some inexpensive. This is the worst, hands down. It does a horrible job, the first time I used it I thought it hadn't been charged long enough, so I plugged it in. Nothing changed, I don't understand how this company could let this product hit the market. Terrible, horrible, awful!!!!!!!!!

Pretty good when used with shaving stick/powder,

I've been using this for about seven months now. I have never really liked electric shavers...they always seem to cause bad razor burn on my neck. Well, since this was gift from my wife, I thought I would give it a shot. I used it a couple times and it felt like somebody had jabbed needles in my face. LOL So, not to be outdone and determined to make this work, I went and bought an electric razor shaving stick. I just rubbed this powder all over my face and started shaving. It really works. I don't get the razor burn anymore from this shaver and it feels like my face is smoother as well. I also now always start with shaving my neck first. I have also had very good results from using Williams Lectric Shave Electric Razor Pre-Shave (green formula with Tea Tree oil). The razor is easy to rinse out when you're through. But you should manually take the blades out, clean and oil them every couple of weeks. It only takes a few minutes and is very easy. Anyway, I am very happy overall with the quality and performance of this razor. It still can't beat a Schick Quattro (or any multi-blade razor), but I find myself using it more and the Schick less. I think to get the most benefit from any electric shaver, you really should buy a quality pre-shave treatment of some sort.

For the current deals on Amazon (I got mine for $30), its an excellent shaver. This is my first electric shaver ever, and I was a little concerned about my skin...however, it was not that bad. The titanium blades are very effective and noise levels are acceptable.
On the con side, I think its not the best at shaving stubble below the chin. Also incessant attempts can cause rashes on your neck. Overall, I think its a very good buy for such low prices.

Capable but it takes time,

I purchased this at Sears for $70 after my Norelco battery gave out after 15 years (yup, 15 years), and there is no way this is worth that kind of investment, but at $35 its probably an OK buy. The manual says the shave gets better after a few weeks to allow your skin to adjust to the razor, and they are correct. Out of the box this razor was a big disappointment, but after a couple of weeks I noticed a lot of improvement. If I had it to do over again, I would have read reviews more carefully and spent $50-$60 to get a really great razor. This one screams average, although washing it out with water from the tap is a nice convenience I've never had before with an electric razor.

Titanium works,

I really believe the claim that the titanium on the blades makes them sharper. This shaver gives me a closer shave than any electric I have tried previously. I had gone back to manual blades because I couldn't get as close but this shaver seems to do the trick. I also like the fact that I can take this razor overseas with me since it converts to other volts.

I've had this for about a year and it's held up for that long so I guess it's decent. Never had any problems with it but it isn't anything special. It doesn't work well on really thick hair, thatis my only problem with it.

Seems to shave close enough but much tougher on the skin than a Norelco. Directions warn about this when it is new but it hasn't improved. Price is certainly good compared to Norelco.

Not as good as Remington 845,

I've used the Remington 845 shaver for 5 years and it worked well for me, typically got 2 weeks for each charging. But charging took an entire day, and if it ran out you couldn't get a shave with it plugged in. So I figured the R-9170 would be an improvement, charging only takes an hour or so, and it can run off the plug. These are true, but the shave itself is more difficult. Feels like the shaver blades aren't able to cut as well as the R-845, they seem to pull more. I've been using it for 3-4 weeks and still pulling. I actually got nicked a couple of times, something that the R-845 never did. You also have to go over your face 4 or 5 times to get a good shave, whereas the R-834 only required 2 or 3 times. I also don't like how the 3 heads are taller and farther apart, plus the heads are angled away from the center (rather than flat like the R-845), so it feels like you have to work the shaver more to do what you want. In summary, I probably would opt to get another R-845 if I had to do over again, even though it cost a bit more.

Pretty good, but does take a long time to shave your face. Amazon should probably, like most of their products they broker for, check them out first and test them...
