Slice through tough tree limbs

Trees tremble at the sight of the Remington RM1840W Log Master electric chainsaw. Its 12 amp motor and 18-inch low-kickback bar and chain slice through tough limbs up to 16 inch in diameter. The large steel bucking teeth dig into the branch to keep the Remington RM1840W Log Master firmly hooked in while it cuts. Its Lift and Dial chain tension makes adjusting the tension as easy as flipping the cover and turning the dial. The Log Master also has an automatic chain oiler, and it comes fully assembled. That means you can pull it out of the box and immediately work through any branches that stand in your way.

Powerful 12 amp motor with 18-inch low-kickback bar and chain

A serious 12 amp motor delivers exceptional power for consistent cutting performance. The longest bar offered in the Remington electric chainsaw line, this saw can handle it all.

This chainsaw is equipped with Lift and Dial chain tension, which allows you to adjust the tensioning by simply lifting the cover and turning the dial.

I've also cut larger 10+ inch diameter logs, and it did fine.

The only thing that I didn't care about is, after use you have to remember to dump the oil,if not it make a mess.
James Turner
I like the automatic oiler and the chain tension arrangement, too.

I bought this thinking it would take down three trees I needed to get rid of. I only hoped it would do the job. It's three years later and I use this saw all the time. It's taken down countless trees, and isn't showing any signs of stress. I'v replaced the chain, and it's like new. I'm usually not a review writer, but in this case I felt that I owed this great product a review.

Long story short, we used this last year to take down trees on 1 acre property. We ended up with 10 full 6/12' dump carts of wood. I just took it out after a storm a few days ago and we cut up about 15-20 trees ranging from 4" to 16", and it did an amazing job. Its nothing like a 300$ Gas chain saw because it lacks the RPM of the chain , but it cuts slow and steady and gets the job done with no gas/oil cleanup!! Even if it dies on its next use, it still gets a 5 star for what I have put it threw for a 90$ purchase. Love it

FYI: Don't buy the Bar & Chain Oil listed on Amazon's 'bought together' suggestion. Unit requires SAE #30 [SAE #10 under 30F, or SAE #40 above 75F] and states "Important: Do not use bar and chain oil."

I've had this saw for 2 years. It seemed to work great. I've been using it to clear a jungle of honeysuckle along a fence line. While clearing a patch yesterday it made a whining noise, then the motor would run but the chain wouldn't. Disassembled the saw and found that they used a plastic gear meshed with a steel gear to drive the chain. And naturally, the plastic gear was stripped. I would not recommend this saw for anything more than very light use. Also, the "automatic" chain lube doesn't seem to work too well. It clogs easily. There is no manual lube mechanism so the saw must be disasembled to clear the clogs. I will be looking for something other than a Remington next time around.

I've used this chainsaw for two days. I am cutting a cherry tree into fire logs and this chainsaw works great. Cuts wood as if it was butter. So far I have not had any problems with the tension mechanism, and it helps to tense it fast. With my small Remington I have to go back to the basement every time and it is too much time consuming..

However after the second day, I just realized the chain may be getting a little rusty, and certainly I have not seen any oil in the chain after 2 days of use..I used oil according to the owners manual (SAE motor oil, not the one suggested by Amazon). Some other customers are pointing out that the lube system obstructs easily, and others that the motor burns after long periods of no use (this would be explained by a rusty chain that the motor is not able to run and therefore burns when trying)..So I put grease today and I guess I'll need to dismount and fix the lubing mechanism before my motor burns out too...

Update on May 2014.

The chainsaw died today after cutting the second tree. The electrical motor burned out, joining my case to several other customers....

I've owned this saw over the past 2 years. It replaced a Remington 14-inch saw and that was a joke to have it in the first place.

I have mixed feeling about this 18-inch saw. At that time, there were not many options. I own a gas-fired chainsaw for remote place and for hard-to-cut trees. But it was very heavy, so I bought this eletric one.

I have used this saw and cut down about 6-7 dead large trees (10" diameter) over 2 years. The retention mechanism seems nice, but it got damaged easily. I had to repair it several time.

Then last week, this thing just burnt. I do not recalled any mis-use. But the motor smoked and would not start again. So in my shed, I have two Remington chainsaw and none will work.

I'll be search for another one, but not Remington this time.

Finally junked and gave away as part of the freecycle for parts.

I've had great experiences with cheap electric chainsaws in the past. This was unfortunately not one of them.

I used this for about half a day before I started having problems with the oiling system (oh look the bar is smoking). I tried all troubleshooting steps listed in the manual with no luck. I took more of the saw apart looking for what might be blocking the oil and basically found a non functioning oil pump. The pump used in this saw is just a little plastic tube with a tiny piston on the top. I looked everywhere online through a bunch of parts diagrams for this saw and nobody sells a replacement oil pump.

Also, be aware that this saw requires you to use #30 motor oil rather than bar and chain oil like pretty much every other chainsaw out there. This isn't labeled anywhere on the saw or item description. I feel like Remington should have put more effort into making these "special" oil requirements known up front, especially since they claim using bar and chain oil will damage the saw.

I had already sunk a ton of time into troubleshooting this thing and decided not to spend more time and money on sending it in for repairs. After seeing what the oil pump consists of I would fully expect it to fail again and have to repeat this process. I decided it was time to stop sending cheap tools to the landfill and instead I went and bought an electric Stihl (MSE 180) chainsaw to replace it. Sure, it was 5x the price of the Remington, but it's a well engineered and serviceable chainsaw, it cuts way faster, and I can actually spend my day getting work done rather than trying to fix the saw. If you're doing any serious amount of cutting (bucking up large amounts of firewood and stuff like that), I think it makes sense to grab a higher quality saw than the Remington.
