Brilliant!,

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Let me just say that the DVD included with the Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Tstudio iron is worth the price of the tool, itself -- and this product is fabulous! The DVD presented the kind of information that stylists pick up at the International Hair Shows in Manhattan. The effects are stunning and the instruction is understandable for the novice, but sophisticated enough for the experienced operator.I am a retired New York City salon owner. I can honestly say that if I was still in that line of work and had seen this product demonstrated at one of the hair shows, I would have purchased one for every station in my shop -- even at a higher price. If you are in the market for a new styling tool, this one is highly recommended. And because of its versatility, it also makes a wonderful gift for anyone in your circle!

Over the last year I have tested out several straighteners. This one rates somewhere in between my favorite (Healthy Infusions by Wahl Pro Straightener, 1 1/4") and my least (Remington S9950 Shine Therapy Straightener, 1").Pros: ~ Left my hair smooth and straight using the highest setting. ~ Outside where you hold the plates closed stayed cool to the touch. ~ The included DVD is great! Both my daughter and I learned several new ways to use our flat irons. Cons: ~ To get my hair smooth and straight I had to go over each section 2-3 times. ~ Took too long to heat up. ~ The temperature lock worked, but because of the button placement I did end up turning it off a couple times. Because of my natural curl, I have found some straighteners work very well and others aren't worth my time. This one did do a good job, but the time it took get that result was far too much. I'd recommend the Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Tstudio Collection Titanium Straightner with Tourmaline 1" Slim Plates to someone with a slight wave or curl looking to replace or purchase a new straightener and who might benefit from the informative, easy to follow DVD that it comes with.

Profesional Quality for much less,
By Yes, there are many other similairly priced flat irons on the market, but none of them are ceramic, and meet the other qualifications I was looking for. This is the only one at this price range that has all of these features. In order to turn it on, you have to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds like you would with many computers or electronic devices. Pushing it and then waiting 5 seconds will not work as the other reviewer stated that she had tried. Also regarding what the first reviewer said, I kept accidentally adjusting the heat with my hand while it was in use, until I read the instruction manual. It states in there, to lock the keys, you just hold down the - button for 2 seconds. You do the same thing to unlock it, so you can turn it off. Problem solved. As with any flat iron, using it takes some practice. But it gives me amazing results and is every bit as good as the ones I've tried that are over $100.00. I have created so many new hairstyles that I could never have achieved with rollers and curling irons and every other product I use. I love being able to do so many new things with my hair. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just okay,

I got rid of my CHI thinking I should give my hair a vacation from heat, but after deciding I could not live without straightened hair, I wanted to get another iron without spending a lot of money. I decided to buy this one, but it caught a few strands of hair during the first use and it did not get my hair very straight. It just looked like I used the blow dryer to straighten it. Since it made my hair silky I would rate it a 3 star. I ended up taking mine back.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Digital Ceramic Hair Straightener with Tourmaline and Bonus DVD (Health and Beauty)
I did my homework and read all the reviews before purchasing this product. There were so many positive comments I decided they outweighed the negative, but have since changed my mind.I bought this iron to replace an older flat iron, so I have at least one other iron to compare. The only positive things I can say are: - Lightweight - Easy to use - Temperature controls were not a problem for me as in other reviews (perhaps the product has been redesigned) Drawbacks: - My hair caught in the seams of the plates very badly - I needed a much higher temperature (100 degrees more!!) than my old flat iron to get my hair straightened - Left my hair dry and frizzy - It took me much longer to straighten my hair than with my old iron, requiring a dozen or more passes (and I have soft, easy to straighten hair) - Personally, I found the video rather cheesy, but that's just me Overall I am very disappointed and will be returning this flat iron.

It's Great!,
This review is from: Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Digital Ceramic Hair Straightener with Tourmaline and Bonus DVD (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This thing is great! I have used a handful of other, cheaper straighteners, and they leave crimp-lines in my hair, or even pull hair out of my head as I use them. I thought I had to get a really expensive straightener to avoid those problems. But this straightener is almost perfect! It heats up really fast and it has really smooth surfaces that let my hair slide through easily. The sides stay cool enough that I can hold the straightener near the top if I need to (although, to be honest, I don't have to keep it on very long or get very hot because my hair is short and fine). The only problem I've seen (and it is enough of a problem that I'm taking away a whole star) is that, no matter how I hold the straightener, the sides of my fingers or thumb press the buttons as I straighten. I have really fine hair, so the temperature needs to be really low, but my fingers turn the heat up as I use the straightener, and I have to keep turning it back down again.

I don't like where the buttons are, they are placed right where your fingers go to press the iron together, changing the temperature while ironing...etc. Then, I had trouble getting the plates to meet. They just wouldn't close all the way. I would have to use a large section of hair and then it was to large to be effective.

This ceramic hair straightener is decent. You get what you pay for, basically. It works fine but if you really want to straighten your hair properly on a daily basis without damaging it, you should get one in the $100-$150 range. Just my opinion but I think many would agree with me. That said, the Remington S-1051 is not a bad product at all. The build quality is decent and it works fine. The temperature control is fine and it does what it says. I can't complain but then again everyone's hair is different and if you have extremely curly locks, you should probably invest in a better quality straightener that will last for many years to come. I don't know how long this unit will last but I would say it isn't going to break down any time soon as long as it's not abused.

FROSTING ON THE CAKE & CURLS,
This review is from: Remington S-1051 Sleek n Curl Digital Ceramic Hair Straightener with Tourmaline and Bonus DVD (Health and Beauty)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My wife said this Remington sleek Curl Flat Iron was frosting on the cake after the dryer. (Let's hope she meant frosting on all the cakes she is now going to bake.)She was amazed at the versatility of this iron. She had always thought flat irons were only for long hair and those who wanted very straight long hair. Not so. An added bonus for her is the swivel cord that does not tangle as the cord of her other curler did. Once again, there's that Remington 4 year warranty which, of course, appeals very much to me. And, who knows? Now that she's so happy with this she may even let her hair grow!

Flaws Outweigh Great Features,

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is my 4th hair straightener. It's also my favorite and least favorite. Here are a list of pros and cons. While the pros are great, Remington still has some work to do to make this a stellar product. PROS: *Lightweight - this is the lightest one I have used and I really appreciate that aspect of it. *Styles my hair the best. Though I straighten my hair, I like to add a bit of flair to it with some flips at the end. The smaller plates really allow me to do this. Plus, that also allows me to get closer to my scalp. My hair used to be straight as a child but has grown wavy over the years. Getting the waves close to my scalp are much easier with this straightener. *Tourmaline offers ionic protection *Swivel cord really helps with less tangles CONS: *The position of the on/off switch results in me inadvertently turning the straightener off several times for each session. Annoying. *This is the biggest con - my hair gets pulled out by the seam in the plates. While I have tons of hair, I am not willing to have several pieces ripped out every morning. This is why I replaced straightener #2. Bottom line: I am still looking for a light weight straightener with slim plates, a swivel cord, and those tourmaline plates that won't pull out my hair or get shut off constantly while I am trying to style my hair. |
