I purchased this CD and it has become one of my most played.
This is an awesome collection of tasteful acoustic picking and
and some absolutely brilliant slide as done on a National steel. I highly reccomend this CD and am looking forward to another one by the talented Mr Jacobs.

If you get a chance to see Bryan perform, DO SO! He doesn't just play the music, he tells you about it and draws you in. He's been doing the VH1 Storytellers type thing long before they thought of it. I've had my copy of this CD for some time and while it isn't the experience of a live performance, it is the next best thing! As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the original instrumental Grace is my favorite.

It's great to see it in wider distribution with Amazon. Buy the CD and I guarantee you'll HAVE to go see him at the next opportunity!

When I first purchased this recording I was a little apprehensive. Most self-produced solo works have left me wondering why I bothered to begin with. Not so with this one. From the opening notes of Statesboro Blues to the coda of Jesus On The Mainline, Byran's guitarwork and expressive voice pulls you right along on a trip through a history lesson of the blues. They act like a magnetic guide into a different era. The instrumentals are deceptively simple yet sublime as they work inside you to show you the world Bryan's created with his music. Great album for all who love simple, honest music from the heart. Buy it, you won't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Skillful, August 30, 2000

Bryan has given us a heartfelt piece of work here. His decades of musicianship afford us a clean taste of the message in the music. He's made all the pieces his own, but I look forward to more original pieces like "Grace". Refreshingly present.

This CD is perfect for those who love old (Depression era) blues and slide guitar. The collection of songs, with the deep, melodic and expressive voice of Bryan, is a great partnership. The mood of the cd is introspective and masterful; the original piece by Bryan is absoutely gorgeous. It is a great first cd by this artist. I welcome future cds by this obviously talented gentleman!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of songs, performed in traditional styles., October 29, 1999
This review is from: Remington Steel (Audio CD)
I've had this CD quite a while, glad to see it's getting some broad distribution on Amazon. Great collection of blues guitar instrumentals, and guitar songs with vocals. Like a "best of" compilation of essential guitar based blues. Wonderful slide work, vocals, and some great guitar sounds. As good as the traditional tunes are, I'm particularly fond of Bryan's solo instrumental "Grace", it speaks right to my heart. This CD is a great "road trip" CD, it's been my choice for many trips now. Well worth checking out.
