Flipping the script for "world music",

Born in Brussels, based in D.C., fluent in English, Spanish, French and Arabic; traditionally trained belly dancer and vocalist / songwriter, Atlas has collaborated with the likes of Transglobal Underground, Jah Wobble, Mick Karn, Love And Rockets and Juno Reactor while creating several solo albums as well. This exotic performer mines traditional Arabic and North African song structures but often transposes them onto modern techno and electronica compositions. This disc highlights her solo career via remixes from some very clever producers, including Talvin Singh, Youth, DJ Spooky, and several others. Very electronic and beat driven, but retaining the pleasingly exotic flavor of the source material.

Natacha kinds of mixes !!,
By Paris Huang "Paris" (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Remix Collection (Audio CD)
I have the French limited version of this album, which includes the remix of the hit which push Natacha to the godness of French market: "Mon Amie La Rose". Clearly, this is not a Dance Remix album, but more expermental, search for the boundry of Natacha'a music. Natacha herself had put efforts in this album, therefore I believe it does not "obey" whatever Natacha had done in her pas albums. You can easily find this attitude in the album Natacha worked with her husband "Foretold of a Dream". I like the remixes of "Duden", they had extended the mysterious feel of this song. And of course the remix of "Mon Amie La Rose" is terrific. I would recommand anyone who really understand Natacha's world to own this CD. It will let you get into her world even deeper.

Never hearing this cd, I picked it up anyway because I'm a huge Natacha fan and love everything she does. I was greatly pleased when I played this cd because although they are all remixes of great songs, they don't sound like the originals (and the remixes of the same song on this cd sound different from each other). They are very pleasing to the ear though with their techno sounds and that awesome touch of middle eastern tune! I look forward to more Natacha cds; her voice is incredible and I can't get enough of it!
