4.0 out of 5 stars Strong collection of minimal reworkings, April 23, 2001

This review is from: Remix Tomorrow Goodbye (Audio CD)
To be fair, I never heard Auch's original "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye," from which these remixes were culled. But I did hear relatively unenthusiastic things about that record, which led me to avoid it overall. However, when I spotted the lineup of remixers and producers on the back of this disc, I couldn't put it back.

The sound is fairly consistent throughout, starting brilliantly with the Donnacha Costello mix, which chirps and sputters throughout the opening and evolves into a slick, minimal techno masterpiece. Sutekh and Peter Spiess contribute solid mixes, but Farben ups the ante with his track which begins in the Schaffelfieber tradition only to kick back into a full-on straight up techno beat. Perhaps it's my impression based on word of mouth originally, but Auch's own reconstruction is the least exciting of the lot, relying solely on repetition with little to hold my interest. However, Ricardo Villalobos not only has a great minimal techhouse mix, but it evolves into a strange little synthesized anthem toward the end; kind of random, but it works. DAT Politics contribute the only real oddball track, and it's 100% in the DAT Politics tradition: abrasive, mildly amusing and also mildly irritating. The rest of the disc flows similar to the first half with mixes from Goem, Gez Varley, MŠrz and more.

All in all anyone interested in a nice slice of tech-house and/or minimal techno should check out this remix collection from Auch.
