Should You Avoid This CD? Absolutely Not!,
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
First, a consumer warning: "Remixed," the debut remix album from diva Deborah Cox, is a megamix of 14 EDITED tracks. This means that this CD does NOT have the full-length versions. For a lot of people, this is a big deal, so consider yourself forewarned before you decide to pick this up. With that out of the way, "Remixed" is the album we more or less predicted from Deborah, whose material is more familiar as remixes on the dance floor than on the radio. It compiles dance re-workings of various singles from her last three studio albums, and they're mixed into each other on this 70 minute disc. Fans of her 12 inch singles will have no reason to be disappointed, for all of her major hits are included. Predictably, DJ Hex Hector nearly dominates the set with his re-workings of the bouncy "Absolutely Not," the breakup stomper "It's Over Now," and his transformation of the ballad "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here." But veteran David Morales also holds his own, as featured on the energetic "Could Have Been You" and "Who Do You Love." There's not one turkey on this set, not even Cox's cover of "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven," which was originally sung by, ahem, Phil Collins. So dance lovers and fans of Deborah will be equally pleased with this disc. It may not have the full-length versions, but it's a well-mixed CD that does a good job in compiling Deborah's dance hits.

Good CD, but should have been 2 CDs,

This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
A majority of Ms. Cox's awesome remixes are here, beat mixed, but edited, naturally. I would have gladly have paid more money for the full length versions of these songs on a 2 disc set. That said, many of the hard to find mixes are here, so if you haven't been able to get your hands on promo only 12 inch singles, you can get a good part of each song here. There are also previously unreleased songs. This is the breakdown.
1. intro 2. something happened on the way to heaven (valentin club mix) (4:57) 3. play your part (mike rizzo leading role club mix) (5:16) 4. mr. lonely (HQ2 main club mix-widelife mix) (5:12) 5. absolutely not (hex hector channel club mix) (5:22) 6. i never knew (hani mix) (5:27) 7. it's over now (hex's retro future mix) (4:37) 8. nobody's supposed to be here (hex hector club mix) (5:23) 9. things just ain't the same (hex hector club mix) (4:57) 10. who do u love (david morales mix) (5:52) 11. it could've been you (david morales mix 1) (4:20) 12. starting with you (danny sullivan & kemist mix) (5:15) 13. who do u love (junior vasquez mix) (5:24) 14. it's over now (hex's club mix) (5:59) Even better would have been a collection of full-length, non-beat mixed remixes that were never commercially available on domestic or import CD, which would have included: something happened on the way to heaven (valentin mix and any other mixes that may be available), play your part (all remixes, there are many excellent ones out there), i never knew (hani mix), who do u love (the vinyl morales mix and the junior mix), and starting with you (any remixes available). But of course, record companies never think with a diehard music collector's logic when they release these compilations, as we all know.

HINRG DEBORAH!!,
By
This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
This has got to be the best hinrg album by a well established artist I have ever heard. Usually an artist will release a generic mixed album, NOT HERE!! You get all her classic mixes.
The CD starts off with a 1:22 intro of all her mixes. It then mixes into her new song "SOMETHING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO HEAVEN" and is continuously hinrg until the last second. BUY!!! BUY!!! BUY!!!. I also recommend "ULTIMATE DEBORAH" which has her classic r@b hits and dance mixes which includes the slow to fast version of "NOBODY'S SUPPOSE TO BE HERE".

Does the Woman sleep, I suppose NOT....This is a Favorite CD mixed to perfection, of most all her greatest club hits, thank goodness she works with some of the BEST DJ Remixers to date. She not only has a HUGE following in the straight community, but the G** men and women, LOVE HER! The reason why is her remixes all played constantly in the G** clubs, "Absolutly Not" at one point if I ever heard that again ......... Well it has been a couple years now, and I put the Hex ext Channel Mix, and I felt as if time was standing still. This is a MIXED CD of the greatest hits, excellent for the gym a brisk walk a party or ANYTHING...even motivation to turn up the volume and clean house, either way, she will be sure to get U in shape. From the club scene to Broadway, not to many artists can accomplish that, and I did say ARTIST, and that she is!/Jason Prof DJ

The Diva At Her Best!!,
By
This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
This is by far the best dance mix compilation that has been released by an artist. This is Deborah at her best and I love every mix on this cd and would highly recommend it to anyone. Granted that they are not all the full length mixes, and that is fine, but it would be nice to have some of them but I am happy with it. One thing I can say is that I would like to have seen the following mixes on the cd: Play Your Part Gabriel & Dresden Mix, Easy As Life Tony Moran Mix, and Same Script Different Cast Jonathan Peters Mix.

I looooove this album. although all of the songs are edited, it gives you a true feel of being in a club. the cd is a non-stop dance album. the tracks that stand out are "Mr. Lonely, Absolutely Not, Play Your Part, It Could've Been You, Things Just Ain't The Same, and Nobody's Supposed To Be Here." Deborah's collaboration with Hex Hector is amazing. if you love dance music, you'll definitely love this album.

A little more like Re-Remixed....,
By Buddhaful (MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
This project idea was golden from the beginning, little things though tarnish the follow through. As seen her with last 2 albums, Deborah has experimented with some club rousers at the end of her R&B albums. Most famous, being the "Nobody's Suppose To Be Here" dance remix that turned the slinky ballad into a dance floor dream. Serving 2 more on the her next album, "Mr. Lonely" and "Absolutely Not", turned up the polish to officially make her the remix queen. The album delivers for as much space as it can take for one CD, and while the album has no slumping point, your favorites from before are re-did making it feel goofy and akward when you knew the beat and all the words by heart. But the unfamilar tracks seem the most satifing, the robust "Play Your Part" remix keeps the metaphors and kicks out everything else for a high octane track. "Something Happend On The Way To Heaven" and "Who Do U Love" are other gems. Yes, maybe the full extended remixes aren't in here, but want would that lead to? Either you A) get less tracks or B) have to pay more for a double disc. If you're thinking of getting the album, this is my official nod to go ahead with it.

totally deborah-licious,
By
This review is from: Remixed (Audio CD)
Absolutely flawless!!!! Deborah's vocals, are as usual perfect and absolutely breath taking. This album has been ten years in the making, and is absolutely worth the wait!!! All her now classic mixes are here including; Absolutely Not (Chanel Club Mix) Its Over Now (both the retro disco and the classic club mix) Things Just Aint The Same and Nobody's Supposed To Be Here (both by Hex) and of course the quite new, but now classic Mr. Lonely. (the Hex Hector and Widelife mixes were spliced together). The beat mix by Al. B Rich works really well, and his treatment of Absolutely Not adds a new innoation to what I would think by now, is a perfect track. I would have appreciated the inclusion of some of her other less well known mixes (like the Junior Vasquez mix of Its Over Now and the Thunderpuss treatment of Absolutely Not), but it is an awesome album nevertheless. Her new single "Something Happened On The Way To Heaven" (Valentin Club Mix) already has the markings of a new classic. Yeah you've probably downloaded most of these songs already. But just buy the album. It is worth every penny.
