Ennio Morricone - Remixes Volume 1,
This review is from: Remixes 1 (Audio CD)
The Compost crew gets their hands on Ennio Morricone for some major remix efforts. On REMIXES, VOL. 1, International Pony kicks things off with a silly homage ditty, but Alex Attias and Swell Session quickly get things into house territory with their mixes. If you've ever wanted to dance to the harmonica of "Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo," now's your chance! And, as expected, Hakan Lidbo goes tech-house blippy on "Alla Serenita." Leroy Hanghofer brings some bright, ringing tones to "Beat N. 3," while Needs offers "Amore Come Dolore" some mellow jazz. Kabuki puts some speedy breaks to "Dal Mare," and the Butti 49 give "Rivoluzione" an Afro-jazz vibe. Kid Sundance does a bouncy version of "Indagine Su Un Cittadino Al Di Sopra Di Ogni Sospetto," but the Amalgamation of Soundz outdo themselves with their version of "La Cugina"--cinematic digital breaks at its best. Temporary Soundmuseum close out the album with a spacey version of "Giu La Testa." Morricone, no doubt, would be proud.

Didn't really enjoy this album as much as I thought I would. The only songs I liked were the tracks "La Moda", "Le Foto Proibite Di Una Signora Per Bene [Alex Attias Mustang Mix 1]", "Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo (The Good, The Bad and the Ugly)", "Beat N. 3 [Toy Destroy Mix]", "Amore Come Dolore", and "La Cugina." Of course, this sadly totals less than half the songs on the album.
Of all these I liked, there was a strong match between two as my favorites. These were Needs "Amore Come Dolore" and Leroy Hanghofer's "Beat N. 3." Both were immediately appealing and clearly well produced. My problem was that many producers just didn't do very good work with the source material they had. For example, in "Alla Serenità", I found I was liking the song when the producer played parts of the original work, but I was bored out of my mind when he went back to his reworking of it. On the other songs, it was the same story. Production wasn't completely a disaster but at the same time, the songs had no appeal at all. If you liked the song by Needs, I highly advise you to seek out work by Lars Bartkhun. He is a large part of the creative force behind Needs and he's also released 4 solo albums (one a Japan only exclusive) as well.

Everybody knows Ennio Morricone, especially the themes he wrote for some great Westerns. Great artists gave a new dimension to these masterpieces.
If you like electronic music, you will like this cd. It blew me away.

Ennio Morricone is one of the most talented composers working today. This album is a compilation of remixes that run the range from ambient to techno to hip-hop. Don't expect the classic melodies from films such as Cinema Paradiso. This album is upbeat dance music all the way through.
