Futuristic jazz.,
By Lord Chimp (Monkey World) - See all my reviews

"Remixes" strikes me as a somewhat misleading title for this CD. Reconstructions, Reconfigurations, Remodels... Maybe one of those titles would have been more fitting. The songs here are all totally reconstructed and only hold a passing resemblance to the originals. Amidst the organic jazzy instrumentation and DJ qualities, samples from the original tracks are integrated for familiarity. All these electronica tracks have now undergone a complete metamorphosis into ambient, jazzy sonic architectures. The effects range from beautiful to atmospheric to haunting. The songs are a heavy supply of downtempo, jazz-inflected electronic psychotropics bound to please many different kinds of listeners. I recommend it.

Minimalistic Perfection,
By shardul shah (Birmingham, AL, USA) - See all my reviews

Even though most if their music is made electronically there is something very old school and organic about them. Their sound is minimal but by no means empty. Underneath the soft texture of their music you can here many samples and instrument flowing harmoniously. Ther are also very true to their band name..this music could easily be a backgrould score to and cool movi. But the beauty of this particular cd is that this music serves well as background score as well as in your face jazz! There are a few vocal touches here and there but the cd is instrumental for the most part. My favourit track on this cd is the first one. Over this cd is very intecse and cool and very enjoyable.

This cd has made a broad jump into an arrangement of perfection of previous work. Each track has subtle layers that provide a complex composition. It is clear that these guys have the ability to set the standard in their genre. Which genre is it anyway? In this cd, they are all of it, and it's damn good.

Cinematic Orchestra, The - Remixes 98 - 2000,
This review is from: Remixes By (Audio CD)
As a collection of remixes by and of the Cinematic Orchestra, Remixes 98-2000 shows the diversity of sound that they can take. Their remixes of Faze Action's "Moving Cities" and Nils Petter Molvaer's "Vilderness" wouldn't be out of place on their darkly beautiful album Motion, while Kenji Eno's "The Fear Theme" is a jaunty number out of a comic spy movie. Les Gammas also get a moody makeover. You can definitely hear the Cinematic Orchestra solidifying their sound... another impressive body of work.

2 1/2
Fringe release of remixes drenched in The Cinematic Orchestra's signature organic free-jazz vibe nonetheless suffers from typical mix-disc syndrome where even keen production seems to be at the aide of guiding other mediocrities. There is a small amount of actual Cinematic material being remixed here, but certainly not enough or in any must-hear way to garner many casual fans to sniff this one out. Instead, try to just hear the DJ Krust remix final track, the only production that feels worthy in the catalog.

sad songs, but they still make me feel good,
By mathias vaes (Leuven, Belgium) - See all my reviews

This cd consists of 7 remixes by the Cinematic Orchestra, made in the past 3 years. Essential is, that they've ripped the original songs totally apart and recreated them with the shreds, except the fact that the new versions are all very sad ones. So never put this record on when you're feeling down and need to be cheered up! I think it's one of the best remix-cd's you can get, especially 'cause there are some songs on which are pretty hard to get. This is truly an album which shouldn't let anyone unmoved.
