A beautiful piece of work on some great classics,

I have enjoyed listening to all these old favourites revived and brought to a new life. What a wonderful job! Thank goodness they've left the music alone and if anything made 42's music happier than ever before. The one beautiful thing about Level 42 is if you enjoyed any of their many hits, Mark King's and Mike Lindup's unique voice combination, Mike Lindup's highly individualistic keyboard work, or Mark King's world-class bass playing, you'll enjoy all their music. The music is so intricate and - dare I say it - classical in nature (Mike Lindup, keyboards, is a classically trained pianist) that each time you listen to it, you'll hear something new. Great music to start your day with!

When I first listened to this CD, the "remix" sounded dull.
Later on I replayed the mixes on better equipment. It certainly helped. Most will be aware of Mark King and his incredible sixteenth note 'slap and pop' bass playing. Behind Mark was the other musicians with their version of jazz/funk dance music. Mark became the front man with his natural talent of playing expensive custom basses. This CD. has plenty of bass punch. However some say his solo work from 'Trash' onwards is better.[most is imported as Mark controlled it all via his record company.]I enjoy all the long forgotten tracks on "The Remixes." Track 2, and "Chinese Way", bounce along with hypnotic repeats. The final track called "Hit Combination" should have been extended to twice it's length. It is a superb mix worthy of an extra 5 minutes, For the price "The Remixes", represents sane value in an upside down market. |
