They may have a funny name but these guys can seriously rock. This is a great mix of hard rock, great vocals, and superior melodies.

The band started off being a Thin Lizzy cover band, and the melodic twin guitar approach remains, but their songs are not copies of Thin Lizzy. This is just gold old-fashioned classic hard rock, a la Thin Lizzy. Just about every song sticks in your head, with catchy riffs, and fine vocals. Thankfully, the production is such, that none of the songs sounds dated. These guys would have been a top selling band in the late 70's, early 80's, and will hopefully become so, very soon! While this will cause those of us fans who grew up in the 70's to wax nostalgic, this isn't some retro band trying to copy a sound, or an image. These are timeless songs that will hold up against any of the best of that era, or of any era. In fact listening to a band craft such enjoyable music as this, makes me hate MTV even more, because they won't ever feature a band like this to the mainstream audience (maybe VH1 Classic will actually feature a new band that plays in this style? Yeah, right!) The only reason I don't give this album 5 stars, is because of the one really slow song 'Tears Of Guilt.' It's not a bad song, and in fact, I really like the lyrics, but when the guitars kick in, it's a very slow and plodding song, that interrupts the great flow that the rest of the album provides. I find myself skipping that track, and I just can't bring myself to give an album 5 stars when I usually skip a tune. 'Inner Light' has a slow, mellow opening, but kicks in to a very nice riff laden song that really rocks. 'My Bleeding Evil' has apparently been moving up the European charts, so maybe they will get the recognition they deserve. Twinball is about the best band I've heard come out of Sweden since HammerFall. As much of a prog metal fan as I am, I really miss this type of music. I miss having guitar riffs that I can hum along with. I have a very hard time getting this CD out of my player for any length of time, and I really hope that I don't wear out my copy, because the import price for this is a bit steep, but it's worth every penny! For those of you who would rather headbang than mosh, this CD is for you. |
