Perfect snare head for brush work and jazz, October 10, 2004

I use this head on my Pulse piccolo snare (ASIN: B0002F5IVO) and - when I am playing acoustic and jazz sets - on the Ludwig snare in my Accent kit (ASIN: B0002II86I).
The surface of this head is ideal for brush work, and also produces the crisp sound for the types of sets I play. I do not recommend this head for heavier music, especially rock, because the sound is too high and the head adds a bit of ring to the drum. However, for jazz and acoustic music the sound is near perfect and the response of the head for both stick and brush work is superb.
Do be aware that tuning this head takes some time and care. This is not because of any flaws in the head itself, but because of how acoustically sensitive the head is. That said, if you play the types of music that this head is suited for, the time and effort to tune it is well spent.
