The sound of the drum head and cymbals is descent for a small "toy" tambourine but the build quality is very poor. The frame is a layered cardboard. The painted picture of childrens faces is a decal, and the blue cloth band holding on the drum head is held in place with two staples. I doubt it will last long at all.

I bought this for my baby boy and over a year later, with lots of use and abuse from him and his sister, it still looks and works good as new. I was surprised that another reviewer really bashed this tambourine's quality- my husband and I and all of our friends are very impressed with the quality. Okay, it's not professional, but really what did you expect, this is marketed for small children and the price is pretty low. I think it is nice looking and also sounds pretty good- both the jingle parts (sorry I don't know what else to call it!) and the drum head. Not cheap or chintzy. I would highly recommend it, as a nice baby/toddler gift that will grow with the child, not discarded after a few months or a year as so many baby toys are. Although I know I didn't pay more than eleven or twelve bucks for it at the time, not sure if I got free shipping? Anyhow I think musical gifts for kids are the way to go, and this is a safe bet since it's not as loud as a snare drum or recorder, haha :)

I bought this tambourine along with the drum over a year ago and it is still in the same perfect condition! Mt son is now 2 years and 5 months and still love it! I would recommend this item to everyone! for their kids)
