The key ring attachment on my old fob finally broke after several repair attempts. The fob was also very worn and the cover for the panic button was missing. I ordered this fob after reading the reviews. I got it in a couple of days and went to work. I watched a couple of different videos on youtube. It was simple and easy. I even moved my old key to the new fob rather than get the key blank cut. Had to work on getting the spring in correctly and tighten it to get that nice click when releasing the key.

If you move your key to the new fob, don't forget the RFID chip as well. It is in the bottom part of the fob where the key is attached. It is about the size of a long grain of rice. Mine wasn't glued in and easily came out. It helps to do your work in a well lit area.

Now I've got a brand new key for my 2003 Jetta. I'm going to order another fob for my other key then it's new headlights!

Overall excellent and cheap way to 'overhaul' my beloved VW GTI's battle worn key fob. Loved the fact that the package included a new VW sticker. Class act!

Two very important things to remember. First you MUST remember to remove the tiny RFID chip from the plastic case from the OLD key. You forget this step and your car's Imobilizer will not let you crank the engine. Google and you will see what I am talking about, where the chip is located and what it looks like. I learned the hard way. It's the size of a large rice grain. Second, the new keyfob plastics do not have a tiny gasket to seal prevent moisture entering the tiny motherboard of the remote unlock feature. So careful of the water, or if you're crafty, remove the gasket from the old key and (try) to transpose it to the new one. easier said than done. i failed on that front. Oh last but not least, assuming you want to re-use the cut key from your old key fob you need to pre-twist/torque the spring prior to closing the plastic caps. Fiddle with it, you'll see what i am talking about.

have fun folks.

I see many reviews with one star explaining false advertising, and there is nothing false about the description of this FOB, it states its a shell only so that means you will have to take your original apart and transfer the important bits to the new FOB. The most difficult part of that process is transferring the RFID chip from the old one to the new one since the old one is superglued to the shell of the old one, but that has NOTHING to do with this product.

I bought this to replace the FOB for my 08 GTI, and it is an exact match. i was able to transfer over the important bits(including the RFID chip) in about 30 min.

If you are not mechanically inclined and if you are not a patient person, then take your FOB to the dealer and pay them to fix/replace it for you, you will fail here.
If you are mechanically inclined, and if you are patient, then this will save you tons of money.

the blue metallic VW emblem is included as well

The OEM key for our 2008 VW Jetta was worn so you could not see the symbols and the red Panic cover was torn.
I switched out the cut key, the small printed circuit board, the RFID capsule and put in a new 2032 battery.
Now my key assembly is as good as new.
Nothing eventful in changing the parts out except the RFID chip.
The RFID chip is your cars immobilizer.
Without this chip, you can start your car, but it will only run for about 1 second then it will shut off.
The RFID chip is a small glass "capsule" that is glued in a channel in the part of your fob that has the cut key and release button in it.
The capsule is glass and it is fragile.
I got mine out with a Dremmel with a 115 high speed cutter bit.
I very carefully removed the plastic around the capsule until I could release it with my fingernail.
Do NOT pry on the capsule to get it out.
If you break the glass then you will have to go to the dealer and then it will cost you about $150.
Take your time removing the RFID chip out of the old key. No hurry!
I put some RTV silicone in the channel in the new key fob and put the capsule in the channel.
The original RFID capsule is now glued into my new key fob.
I really cannot see much if any difference between the original OEM key and what I have now.
This is a "do over" purchase.
All parts fit together well.
The price was good and it works perfectly.

This is an excellent piece that is not the quality of the original but is much better than paying $150 at a dealership. I am awful with putting stuff together and this was SO easy. The folks who talk negatively on here obviously forgot to take out the security chip from the old key to the new one. You can also easily put your old key in this fob, so there is no reason to go get the key cut. Great item. And, great seller.

Got my new cases within 5 days of ordering. Past reviews on this item were right on the money. Just re-use your old key, pc board, and RFID chip. The RFID chip was glued in by the factory, but I found out nail polish remover(acetone) helped to free it up without any damage. Just be very patient and use a Q-tip to saturate the area around the RFID chip several times. Within a few minutes, the old glue is loosened up and then I used a thin pocket knife blade to pry it up ever so gently. Place a dab of super-glue into the new remote to secure the RFID chip in place, move over the battery, install the pc board, and torque the old key into your new remote (3 spins worked for me) and you're done!
