This is just an amazing remote control car. It features an onboard camera that allows you to take high resolution photos or videos (640 X 480 Pixel) while you are driving it. You can control the car with your Android or Apple smart device and you can download a free app to do this. The app is called iConMotor and it is available on the iTunes app store or on the Google Play store. I show how to use it in my video.

You can use the app to guide the car in one of two basic and very fun ways. The first is to use the controls on your smart device screen and move forward or reverse, steer left and right and you even have three gears to drive in. This car is extremely fast and difficult to use in a home. Even in a large basement. You can also set the control to be in the gyroscopic mode where you can tilt your smart device forward and back for forward and reverse directions and left and right for left and right turning. It is like using your smart device like a steering wheel and gas pedal.

The first thing you want to do is to use the 24 inch charging cable to charge the car's internal lithium battery. You can use any USB power source like your computer's USB port, an AC USB wall charger or even a USB car charging port in your own vehicle. The car has a Micro USB charging input port in the rear end of the car. When the car is charging a small LED on the front of the car lights up green and when it goes out the car is fully charged. After you are running the car the battery will get hot so you should let it cool down for about 5 minutes before you plug it in to charge it. The battery has a capacity of 750 mAh and it will charge in 70 to 80 minutes. The driving time of the battery is 10 to 15 minutes. The battery is not replaceable.

If you ever want to see grown men acting like a bunch of kids the iConMotor is the perfect car to get. I charged the car up with a battery pack so I'd be prepared for the insane car crashing against my walls and taking tall leaps with a single bound down four inch drops. When you are charging the iConMotor the green charging light will go off when the car is fully charged. A USB charging cable is included. You can charge it with a battery pack, through an AC charger, or your PC (a tad awkward) or a laptop.

GETTING READY FOR THE RACE:

☼ If you have an Apple device, head to the App Store > iConMotor
☼ If you are using an Android device head to Google Play > iConMotor

Search, download and install.

Make sure your Wi-Fi is on. It should show up easily and then you're ready to activate your car. Hit the power button and the blue LED indicator light will flash. FYI, the user guide is very good with both text, photographic visuals, and a troubleshooting guide.

Now you're ready to drive. In this house the scene was positively frantic with the iConMotor racing around the house. It flew over hardwood and ceramic floors, but heavy carpeting may prove formidable for the car. In the short video you can see the almost intuitive control buttons.

Forward / backward, left / right, and a gearshift button (first through third). The iConMotor moves. You can briefly see what it sees through the camera which is just above the power button. The visuals coming through the phone are perfect. No fuzziness or breakup whatsoever. Very clear video at all times. You can take a photo or video if you decide to spy with this little number.

I had trouble keeping up with the guys and with the car as it flew around the house.

Out of the box, app downloaded, up and running in ten minutes. I left the unboxing and first tries to my twenty two year old son and all total this took ten minutes. Mr. Android hit no bumps in the road, except trying to correctly spell the name of the app in the Android app store. Honestly, there aren't many pieces of technology toys that are this easy to set up.

Number two son came home, he is Mr. iPhone, and it took him about six minutes to start running the car into the wall and doing silly things.

The verdict - super easy to set up and use. It works great with Android and iOS. And it is fun.

The car works over peer to peer Wi-Fi - it does not connect to your wireless or cellular network. Video is sharp in bright room light. Controls are laggy, something we all got used to after a few minutes of playing. You can't really control this completely blind - the lag is too great to drive smoothly. Although you could act you are controlling the Mars Rover and have it only move short distances at a time. With a visual, it isn't too hard to control.

The video is very sharp within ten feet of the car. As you get farther from the car, the video quality goes down. The car is really well built. The car is rear wheel drive and the motor is on a spring suspension. The rear end is a straight through axel so there is no differential. The front end is also sprung and has a standard RC car trim for the steering (if the car pulls one direction or the other, the trim setting will make the car drive straight).

The car feels solid with a good weight. The blue headlights are cool creepy. The car makes enough noise when it moves that it probably wouldn't really spy on anybody. The wheels do collect hair and are pretty easy to clean.
