5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Thing Nick' Ever Produced, September 17, 2003
By
This review is from: Ren and Stimpy Show, The Classics Volume 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I can't believe how relatively short-lived this one-of-a-kind series was compared to most of Nickelodeon's contrived and un-enthralling entries like As Told by Ginger and The Wild Thornberrys. This show was the greatest slapstick, tongue-in-cheek extravagganza since the Marx Brothers and Three Stooges in their heyday. Some critics brand this eternal gem about a high-strung chihuahua and his hair-brained feline pal as juvenile, moronic, and violent, but if you think about it, so were Bugs Bunny cartoons. That's why they're funny! And why they've endeared themselves to our public conscience in such an indellible fashion. And let me say something else. Ren & Stimpy premiered when I was seven years old (I'm nineteen now), and I can say with undeniable certainty that THIS program is directly responsible for my lifelong love-affair with classical music. What other program has made such breathtaking and directly visual use of Dvorak's New World Symphony, or Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture? In fact, if you listen carefully, throughout the course of one single episode, a different, great cue of classical music is played almost every five seconds! Can we forget how they used the Andante movement from Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto in the bathtub scene of Space Madness? I think not! Anyway, just some food for thought. And when is this show going to be brought to us on DVD? Thanks, and keep watching!

---Barrett

5.0 out of 5 stars This video is brilliant. Why isnt it in stock anymore?, May 17, 2003

First of all this video contains Stimpys Invention,Space Madness and Untamed World. All three are brilliant and creative. My favorite one though is Space Madness. Ren is slowly becoming insane and the results are hilarious. He threw the tubes on the floor and said I want real food in that classic irritated way of his,but the funniest part is when he floats around in bathtub water and says "Youre not like the others you like the same things I do.Wax paper, boiled football leather, dogbreath." I love that line. He also says didnt you see em?Didnt you see the crowds,we arent hitchhiking any more were riding. It is not I who am crazy it is I who am mad.
Stimpys Invention is my second favorite.Stimpy has all these cheesy inventions and when he gives Ren stay put socks and Ren asks how do these work.Stimpy says theyre full of glue then Ren says "you filthy swine I will kill you." But the funniest part is when Stimpy brings the record happy happy joy joy and plays it it has all these crazy lyrics like I'll teach you to be happy I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs.
Finally Untamed World is my third favorite. My favorite part is when the seagull is looking all homicidal and just asks the baby soft shelled Stimpy if he can have some money for a bite to eat.The turtle says good now get out of here scram deadbeat.
All these cartoons are brilliant and in no way possible are they just for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless, May 10, 2002

Stimpy's Invention: Sometimes considered the King Episode of the series. Is it? I don't care, it's still in the top five list! *****
Space Madness: Probabley the greatest way a cartoon character slowly goes insane is presented here. Well animated, humoristic, sadistic, psychotic fun! *****
A Cartoon: Ren and Stimpy host Untamed World, where they explore Gallopgoes Island-like islands. If you like spoof humor, this is for you! *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy, Happy... Joy, Joy...., February 15, 2003
This review is from: Ren and Stimpy Show, The Classics Volume 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It is not that often where a cartoon can have some zany humor, with a hint of originality, and a great duo of characters. In the case of Nickelodeon, they had that edge when Ren & Stimpy was introduced to the public. In 1991, Ren & Stimpy became one of the most dynamic duos of our time. The laugh out loud humor and a dash of hairballs and liter, makes them that true.

The 1993 video, The Classics, consists of only three Ren & Stimpy cartoons to the taking: Untamed World, Space Madness, and Stimpy's Invention. In Untamed World, the dog and manx cat duo, showcase a parody of one of the most boring issues in the world, nature shows. With a lot of humor and excitement from evolution pasrodies of Ren & Stimpy, like the Soft Shell Stimpy, and the Horny-billed Chihuahua.

In Space Madness, Ren & Stimpy are in outer space, trying to control Ren's temper, from losing contol from boredom of being in space too long. The mix of humor blends in quite smoothly, as Ren eats a bar of soap, thinking it is an ice cream bar, while also trying to control Stimpy's madness, from pushing a button that will erase all of history.

In Stimpy's Invention, Stimpy wants Ren to volunteer to try out some weird inventions, like stay-put socks, and a remote controlled shaver. Ironically, it isn't until the happy helmet, where Ren is controlled into being happy for life, by Stimpy. At the same time, Ren destroys the hat whle doing the Happy Happy, Joy Joy dance.

It is just a shame that Nickelodeon stopped broadcasting Ren & Stimpy. It is just kind of sad. When the laughter dies, the duo dies as well. It is also sad the a lot of video stores stopped carrying videos from the duo. If you really want to laugh out loud in crazyness, then introduce yourselves to Ren & Stimpy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insane, November 19, 2001

I discovered this show when the very first episode was broadcast on BBC Two and was instantly hooked. This video contains the very best episode: Space Madness. If you've never been introduced to Ren and Stimpy, it's time you where.

Trapped on a spaceship for far too long, Ren goes completely insane and falls in love with an ice cream bar. Stimpy, meanwhile must make sure he never...EVER touches the BIG...SHINY...HISTORY ERASER BUTTON!

Sound surreal? Definitely!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best show ever, February 5, 2004
This review is from: Ren and Stimpy Show, The Classics Volume 1 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Every single one of these episodes is the best thing ever.
HOWEVER, I have a question for you people. What episode is it where ren and stimpy are stranded on the island and they have to make a home out of the beached sperm whale, and then they have to move out because it becomes full of maggots? That is my favorite and i don't know the name of it.
