The twentieth album by this talented Mexican singer-songwriter is a tribute to ranchera queen Lucha Villa. Since 'Renacer' centers on music from an earlier time it seems a fitting follow-up to recordings like 'Joyas de Dos Siglos' and 'Tradicional'. 'Renacer' has 23 songs and is dominated by mariach-style rancheras, while including several numbers in the Banda style which began in Ms. Gabriel's home state of Sinaloa.Her well-known raspy, sexy voice adds to her impassioned delivery and seems to especially complement the Banda songs which open up disc 2. I find the singing/music combination to be her best since 'Con Un Mismo Corazon'. Certainly worth buying for any fan of Ana Gabriel's ranchera efforts, and a fine introduction to the two musical styles which dominate 'musica ranchera'. |
