Good price for great sheets,

These sheets are smooth and comfortable; however, the fabric is thick and substantial, so if you like your sheets cuddly-soft, maybe you won't care for these. I'm one of those people who can't stand to have wrinkles and folds under my feet, so I've fallen in love with them; the fabric will hold up all week without getting stretched, loose, and tangly. I do wish they had done an extra row of stitching on the elastic of the fitted sheet, but at this price I suppose you can't have everything--and if it becomes necessary, I do have a needle-----somewhere-----I think.
I like the café color very much--it's a rich gold, deeper and not as yellow as the golds of yesteryear. The sheets launder well; if you take them out of the dryer promptly and iron just the top hem (Iron an entire sheet? I don't think so.), the whole set looks smooth and inviting. So I'm very pleased. Now if I could just get my husband to let me tuck in the sheets at the bottom of his side of the bed, life would be good.

Different sizes - Different Quality,

I ordered a king set and a queen set. The queen sheets are unbelieveably soft, luxurious, and overall wonderful. There is a little satin trim along the top edge of the sheet.
The king sheets DON'T have the satin trim, and they are not nearly as soft. The fabric is a little stiff and kinda heavy. The two sizes are definitely different products. I wrote Amazon about it and they offered to refund my money. I have already washed the sheets, so I may just wash them some more with more softener and hope for the best. They are still a good value for the cost, but I'm surprised at the total difference in the two sets.

I bought these sheets in a gold box deal for a great price. Last week I bought a 100% Cotton Sateen 600 thread count sheet set from Linens and Things too for the same great price using their 20% discount coupon. In comparing the 2 sets the Linen and Things sheets seem different - they are "Made in China" and while this Renaissance set is "Made in India". These were more pliable than the other sheets which made me wonder about how can the finish be so different. A website for luxury linen company clarified things. "Thread counts aren't the be-all and end-all when it comes to sheets you love to touch. Softness depends more on the quality of the fiber, which is why a 200-thread-count fine cotton sheet can have a softer `hand' or feel than a 400-thread-count sheet that uses an inferior grade of cotton or a twisted thread. Fine linens begin with fine cotton, and the quality of the cotton depends on the lengths of the individual fibers, or staples-the longer the staple, the better the cotton...100 percent Egyptian cotton [is] acknowledged as the best quality, longest-staple cotton in the world. The way in which fabric is woven also has an effect on its feel, cotton sateen sheets, for example, are softer than those with a classic linen weave. A satin weave has more warp threads on the top surface, resulting in a silk-like touch and appealing luster. Which is better? It's a matter a personal taste; some people prefer the crispness of a linen weave, others like the softness of the satin. In the US, many types of sheeting are chemically finished to keep them smooth. Some consumers may prefer more natural options. In Israel and India, sheeting is machine calendared-which means it is smoothed in rollers. This type of finish wears longer than a chemical finish. So I think the difference may have been in the quality of cotton used and the method of finishing. I preferred the L&T sheets based on more "cottony" than "satiny" feel but that is just personal preference.

They pilled up and were rough after only the second washing. Definitely not satisfied with the quality.

I was so excited to purchase the 600 TC Sateen sheets! I couldn't wait for them to arrive, wash them, and put them on my bed. Much to my disappointment, however, these sheets are anything from soft and comfortable. It was like sleeping on the cheapest hotel sheets you can imagine. I've washed them at least a dozen times, using excessive amounts of fabric softener and dryer sheets to try and make them softer. I have not yet succeeded in that. The deal I got would have been impressive if only the sheets were worth what I paid. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone. Sorry.

Lovely color, but stiff...,

These are a great price for a sheet set; I bought them in merlot and they're a deep wine color; however, they're a little stiff (so much so that my elbows got a bit chaffed from rolling over at night). They're definitely worth the price, but they're not my favorite set. I'll continue to wash them to see if they get softer with time.

Edited review on 1-07-10 and 1-26-10: edits at the end.
(Original review for king sets) For this price, these sheet sets are a good bargain (39.99 on sale). However, they are no where near the softness or have the "cuddly factor" of the 500 count Pinzon sateen sheets I purchased from Amazon a few months back for the same price. Those sheets are like sleeping on clouds. These sheets are like being back at home in my childhood bed. They are thicker, stiffer, and heavier than the Pinzon sheets which are so light and silky, so I imagine they will last several years. The colors are beautiful and there are no imperfections that I can see. I bought king Pecan, Lt. Blue, Burgandy, and Rose sets - what can I say? I love clean sheets. Would I buy them at 39.99 again. Sure thing. Would I pay more? Nope. 1-07-10: Queen set in chocolate Life circumstances find me in a different location and in a smaller bed, without the previous king sized sheets I purchased. they were still in excellent shape after all these years, had NO piling, never shrunk, and were very soft by then. My current queen size bed is very used and a bit rough. I decided to try these again in hopes that the thickness of these sheets would counteract some of the surface roughness. They sure do! Just right! They are softer this time around too. They were made in India and are chocolate brown, different than my first purchase so that may be why. They are very sleek and soft, but still sturdy enough to stand up to this present mattress. Wish the other colors were as inexpensive. Oh and they fit perfectly, plenty of room on all sides. My mattress is only 8" thick and there is plenty of room for a topper if I go that route. After washing they were incredibly soft and didn't shrink. The color faded ever so slightly but that's OK because it was a bit too dark. Love them even more. 1-26-10: Molten in Queen. OK, so now I see the quality control issues. These were made in India like the chocolate ones but are not quite as soft. They are closer to the crispness of the king sets but still soft. Hope they catch up to the chocolate softness eventually. What can I say about the color that hasn't been said. YIKES! Think of shiny burnished antique mustard gold/brown that turns almost mustard brown/YELLOW in the light. YUK! Well, at least it kinda goes with the brown and tan of my room, plus with the burnt orange UT Longhorns goodies I have in there, it kinda goes, well, maybe ... not .... but I picked this color for the price more than anything else to save 20 bucks. So for that it's OK. Just be warned.

They are thick and soft and well made. They're deep enough to fit all but the thickest pillowtop mattresses. Great deal and feel like they will last.

After Three Washes, Starts Pilling,
By
This review is from: Renaissance 600 Thread Count Cotton Sateen King Sheet Set, Rose (Kitchen)
Despite this being a 600 thread count set, it only took three washes to start pilling. This should not happen with a set like this.

Great Value,
This review is from: Renaissance 600 Thread Count Cotton Sateen Queen Sheet Set, Teal (Kitchen)
These sheets are wonderful. I will buy 2 more sets in the near future. The only problem is that the fabric does not appear to have been prewashed prior to sewing the seams, & the trimmed edges require ironing to lay flat & look attractive. The price of the sheets makes it worth it to do touch up ironing, these sheets would be priced at $100.00 per set at a retail store...and would probably STILL require a bit of ironing! Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
