5.0 out of 5 stars Essential energetic trance
This was released near the edge of 2000, and thankfully sees a new re-pressing for those who missed it the first time. Oh, what a crowd pleasin' set it is, courtesy of Dave Seaman. Forgoing the atmospheric builds marking his Global Underground excursions, Seaman fires out an exciting, energetic string of tracks without resorting to the huge trance-choons of 1999.

2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated and Unimpressive
I'm still backdating my electronica listening for Renaissance albums mixed by Dave Seaman...all because of his very impressive Desire album. Well I didn't like Awakening and America is even worse. Outdated trance that flows poorly with too many tracks that have me reaching for the skip button. Missed its release? Don't worry, not much worth listening to on this album...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mix!!, December 29, 2003

I'm starting to think....the older the better. I bought this CD when it came out and never get tired of listening to it. I pull it out every now and again and always enjoy Dave's Mix. The mix opens with a mellow couple of tracks and then starts building.....building.....until the mind blower by Laguna Seca -"The Flow" and "Twin Town" by Ian Wilkie Vs Timo Maas. The mix continues pumping and eventually starts coming down with Orkidea "Unity" and to finish it off, a great vocal track by Anomaly.
This is for all who love Trance and even prog. house/tech house fans will enjoy this.
Turn the lights low, make some space in the lounge, crank up the stereo and party on!!!!

BT and Hybrid are of course some of the biggest names in trance, and their collaboration on "Godspeed" is appropriately spot-on, merging polished production with deep-bass undertones. Of the endless mixes "Under the Water" has flooded dance with, the Starecase cut that follows does a fab job of injecting life to the dreary vocals.

Seaman's ability to string several driven numbers without devolving into high-speed nonsense ultimately makes this a winner; juggling just enough squelch or breakbeat (Highland's "Forsaken") or melody to keep you tuned in. In fact, it almost ends too soon, with the last three tracks easing the throttle or dipping somber (Orkidea's "Unity") before ending on that DJ-popular closer "Anomaly."

Regardless, practically essential for trance fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cd, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Renaissance America (Audio CD)
This is a classic Renaissance cd. Was surprised to find it at such a cheap price - until I received it and realised it wasn't both cd's to the 2 cd set. I should have read the description inside the item. Maybe this could've been written in the summary.

5.0 out of 5 stars On par with any of Seaman's UK releases ..., September 30, 2004

An excellent single CD mix album from Dave Seaman that is on par with any of his previous Renaissance or Global Underground releases. Track highlights include Hybrid's remix of BT's "Godspeed", Brother Brown's beautiful "Under The Water", Highland's "Forsaken", Timo Maas & Ian Wilkie's "Twin Town", and of course Albion's (aka Ferry Corsten's) superb remix of Libra/Taylor's "Calling Your Name". The easy highlight of the whole album though, is Orkidea's amazing "Unity". The song merges older electronic classics like "Papua New Guinea" with a late 90's progressive trance edge. And of course, aside from the excellent track selection, the arrangement and mixing is of Renaissance standard, meaning: flawless. All in all, you have a superb mix worthy of sitting along side any of Dave's UK releases.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Mix (B+), July 1, 2004

Not overdone, overtop, or a waste of time. Seaman provides me with tastefullness. There is great mixing going on, and a good amount of complexity that he skills. This disc is for some reason always refreshing whenever I pull it out. It's progressive and yet sullen enough that you and the music can fade into the background. Theres a great blend of energy here, which makes this one of Seaman's better mixes. I bought this shortly after it released, and even with myself i've undercredited it. It's a solid add to your collection of trance/progression.

I got this when it came out, on a whim, and i still listen to this mix all the time. DS's spinning is very interesting...he uses some interesting layering techniques for some of the mixes that really show his skill. Still my favorite Renaissance disc...though R Presents: ian ossia and the robert miles disc on R. London are great too.

I'm begining to think "the older the better". I bought this when it first come out and am very glad I did. It's a cd that I pull out every now and again and really enjoy listening to. From the mellow beggining he takes us on a journey, building right up to the mind blower "The Flow" by Laguna Seca and "Twin Town" by Ian Wilkie Vs Timo Maas. The mix continues.....taking us through some trancey tunes eventually taking the mood of the mix back to a mellow level and finishing off with a great vocal track.
Thoroughly reccomend it to anyone who loves dance music, not only trance, but prog. house fans aswell. Soooo, set the mood, turn the lights low, crank up the stereo, make some space in the lounge, and party on!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars a totally different dave, February 28, 2002

i am used to the smooth and mellow style that makes dave seaman my favorite trance DJ. on this CD, he brings a lot more energy than usual. my guess is that he thinks that the american ear is not yet sensitive enough for his mellower tracks, or else he is just spinning a different style in the 2002. either way, this CD does not disappoint... the first three tracks are my favorites, especially #2 ("under the water"). check it out

4.0 out of 5 stars seaman strikes again...out?, March 31, 2002

dave seaman is one of my favorite djs but I would have to say that I'm a tad disappointed with this mix. For those new to dance and dj music, great, fine, a good start. However, for the more seasoned listener the track selection is a bit stale, and certainly one can find better mixes in any of the other renaissance mixes he has produced. Still, for the fan of dave seaman, it is a must have. But if you only get one cd from him, check out renaissance 4 the mix collection if you can find it. Also outstanding is renaissance worldwide singapore which also contains an awesome set by david morales.
