5.0 out of 5 stars Finally I'll have the second Renaissance collection again!, June 22, 2008
This review is from: Renaissance - The Mix Collection Part 2 (Audio CD)
I'm so happy to have found a copy of Renaissance 2 again. As with the first mix collection, I lent it out to a friend waaay back when and never got it back! I can (sort of) understand why my pal never gave it back, as this is nearly as strong as the first one! I say "nearly" only because the first collection is, IMO, the BEST DJ mix CD of all-time, and well.....it's always hard to top perfection. That said, Digweed did an amazing job of compiling and mixing the top tracks of 1995 as only he can. Anyone who has Renaissance - The Collection Volume 1 knows that John and Sasha were pioneering a little thing called "progressive house" back then, and John carries the torch brilliantly. Italian tracks were all the rage that year, and he includes all the best proggy anthems from the year, as well as a few future trance classics such as "Children" by Robert Miles and "Anomaly (Calling Your Name)" by Libra presents Taylor. The mixing is flawless as you would expect, and a few of them are downright mindblowing! I know alot of people who are into Sasha & Digweed's later compilations (Northern Exposure and Global Underground, etc..) would probably still contend that the tracks contained herein are somewhat "cheesy" and "pop" by today's standards, but again, John delivered a perfect snapshot of what real progressive house sounded like in 1995! Interesting to note how much the music had changed in one short year from the first collection....it was heading in directions that would later define more than a few genres of house music. 5 Stars....seek out and find this at all costs!
