MxPx turned a lot of heads when they announced they were putting an EP out on FAT. Personally, I think this is the smartest thing this band has ever done. While the physical quality of this record is "fair", the quality of the songs make up for it. This record in no way resembles any of the band's latest releases, containing songs that are a little "ballsy" for a pop-punk (if that's what you want to call it) band to be playing. "Talk of the Town" is the perfect example of that. It is a fast-paced, aggressive hardcore song that makes you double check to make sure you are actually listening to MxPx. The last track, "Yuri Wakes Up Screaming" is another track that you would never see on any of their major label releases. The same line is repeated throughout the whole song (with a slight exception) and the melodies change and breakdowns occur. It's definitely odd. The record opens with "Lonesome Town." This song is melody packed but doesn't stand a chance to its succeeder, "Letting Go." The future of this band is constantly being questioned but taking a break from releasing [junk]-filled records was definitely a good idea. And while the recording quality is always being knocked, the band made the choice of doing it themselves, and releasing it on a somewhat indie label. If MxPx sent this DIY message from the start I think they would be respected far more than they are respected today. A record like this was definitely due from this band.

This is an amazing EP. This, along with "the decline" by nofx, is probably the best EP I own. And remember do not expect a half an hour album this is an 18 minute classic EP. When I first got this CD it stayed in my CD player for weeks. I couldn't stop listening to it. You have to buy this CD and where is lacks in quantity it makes up in quality.

MxPx is back with this new EP, they rip through the nine tracks in just over 18 minutes. The most important thing about this record is that it is not on major label A&M and it is produced by MxPx themselves. Gone is the super-clean, generic sound of "The Ever Passing Moment", the freedom that Fat Wreck allowed them to recapture the feel and sound of "Pokinatcha" mixed with a little "Buffalo". This EP is worth getting but at 12 bucks its a little pricey.
