This review is from: Renaissance Town (Spectacular Visual Guides) (Paperback)
Jacqueline Morley is on of the stalwart authors of children's history writer. She has easily written over one hundred books. Like a Fiona MacDonald or a Don Nardo, she is an author the publishing industry knows they can go to for a well researched and written children's history book. Once again, she delivers in "Renaissance Town" which is part of the highly regarded "Inside Story" or "Spectacular Visual Guides" series. Fifteenth Century Florence was at the heart of the Italian Renaissance and Morley's book does a great job of explaining its importance in world history. My problem is with Mark Peppe's illustrations. They are not up to the very high quality that defines this series of books. I found his illustrations to be borderline cartoonish in execution. "Renaissance Town" is a solid effort that is hurt by mediocre illustrations.
