Book Description

May 18, 2006 0781796261 978-0781796262 Second

This text offers second-year medical students a case-based approach to learning mechanisms of renal disease. Each chapter covers a disease and begins with a patient case, followed by discussion of the pathophysiology of the disease. Issues of differential diagnosis and therapy are linked to pathophysiologic mechanisms. Short questions interspersed in the text require students to apply their knowledge, and detailed answers to the questions are given.

The Second Edition incorporates the latest findings regarding mechanisms of renal disease. This edition also has a two-color art program and a fresh new design that features cases, questions, and other pedagogical elements prominently.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Doody's Book Review Service , Jens Goebel, MD, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center -- "Like the first edition of 1994, this second edition provides a solid, broad understanding of the mechanisms underlying kidney dysfunction and disease...The book comprehensively covers all aspects of the kidney function in health and its alterations in kidney disease, acute and chronic. It is written, illustrated, and structured very well with a useful mix of case vignettes, summaries, questions and two-color illustrations that are clear and helpful...The strength of this book is its didactic clarity, conciseness, and structure, reflected in its compact paperback format while preserving its comprehensiveness."-Doody's Book Review Service

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE for med students, August 22, 2004
I found renal physiology to be difficult to grasp until I read this book. This book is excellent because the clinical cases and examples are easy to follow. You NEED this book for your renal exam and for the boards. I never understood all of the hypertonic hyponatremia, etc. stuff until I read this book. This book is complete yet easy to read. You won't regret this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent review and explanation of the basics, June 28, 1999
This is an excellent review that clarifies all of the ideas presented in the first years of medical school. It is very useful in helping to grasp the essentials of basic pathophysiology of the kidney. Straighforward and easy to read with good explanations and useful review problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for renal module, February 4, 2008

This review is from: Renal Pathophysiology: The Essentials (Paperback)
This book is all you will need for renal pathophys your 1st and 2nd years. It is small and doesn't look like much, but is extremely well written. THis is all I used for my 2nd year renal module (with a little robbins on the side), and I nailed the exam. I recommend for any med student.
