A MUST HAVE for med students,
This review is from: Renal Pathophysiology: The Essentials (Paperback)
I found renal physiology to be difficult to grasp until I read this book. This book is excellent because the clinical cases and examples are easy to follow. You NEED this book for your renal exam and for the boards. I never understood all of the hypertonic hyponatremia, etc. stuff until I read this book. This book is complete yet easy to read. You won't regret this purchase!

Excellent review and explanation of the basics,

This is an excellent review that clarifies all of the ideas presented in the first years of medical school. It is very useful in helping to grasp the essentials of basic pathophysiology of the kidney. Straighforward and easy to read with good explanations and useful review problems.

Great book for renal module,

This book is all you will need for renal pathophys your 1st and 2nd years. It is small and doesn't look like much, but is extremely well written. THis is all I used for my 2nd year renal module (with a little robbins on the side), and I nailed the exam. I recommend for any med student.

Very helpful for my med school renal block!,
By AT (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Renal Pathophysiology: The Essentials (Paperback)
This was readable over the 4-week renal block. It made a huge difference in learning physiology, which was covered during the first two weeks and apparently confused a good deal of my class. I didn't go to class and instead learned almost all the physiology from this book, and I did well above average.

Plagiarism,
This review is from: Renal Pathophysiology: The Essentials (Paperback)
There are whole sections of this book that are lifted, word for word, straight out of Burton Rose's Clinical Physiology of Acid-Base and Electrolyte Disorders, without any attribution. Just sayin'.

This was a great book, but I'm not sure it would have been as helpful without having previously read a different book (a physiology text) relating to the basic renal physiology. This was a good source for Renal pathophysiology following the previous source.

The book arrived shortly after ordering in the condition described. There were no surprises (which is a good thing). I would recommend if you need a book in a pinch.

Excellent Resource,

Easy to read, well laid-out. I brought it to study for the USMLE Step 1 exam and I'm really glad to have it on the shelf.

This book is an excellent tool to "understand" the complexity of renal physiology and its relation to renal disease.

Not that impressed...but don't know of an alternative.,

To be honest, I wasn't that impressed. This was our assigned textbook, and I tend to use the texts as references for when I don't understand something in class or in a problem set. I felt that this book often left out the explanation of "why" something happened, and tended to be less in depth than even our lectures and so I'd be frustrated that the book didn't really explain the underlying mechanisms to a process (which I think is key to understanding renal pathophys)...and don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people trying to memorize every tiny detail. But I felt this was a little too superficial to be of much use. I ended up probably getting more out of Robbins and Costanzo's BRS Physio review (which does include some pathophys) than out of this text.
