This review is from: Renata Tebaldi: Aria & Scenes (Audio CD)
These selections are what I call heaven. Young Tebaldi singing "Sola, perduta..." from Manon Lescaut is absolutely heartbreaking. I love her idiomatic yet spontaneous Italian, her haunting phrasing and her golden tone. When di Stefano joins her for the final scene it's getting even better. Of course Olivero sang this well, as did Callas but young Tebaldi was a natural in these scenes. Then there's "O soave fanciulla", from the same recital. You haven't heard La Boheme if you haven't heard this yet! I cannot believe I'm the first to review this! Buy it, RUN and buy it!

Tebaldi at Her Best,
By
This review is from: Renata Tebaldi: Aria & Scenes (Audio CD)
The Boheme and Manon Lescaut pieces are my favorite of all time. Tebaldi's voice, to my ears, is the most beautiful of any voice, male or female and gives me the chills. She sings with amazing phrasing and volume control.
All the selections are among the best ever recorded and if you get only one Tebaldi disc- get this one. There is an error in the track designations. Track 4 is NOT "Un Bel Di" but the First Act Duet from Tosca with Richard Tucker who is wonderful. |
