Neyrey provides a much-needed systematic look at various parts of the New Testament in terms of the ancient client-patron model which governed life in the time of Jesus. The model seriously affects our exegesis of the text, and an informed reader of the Bible cannot afford to be without Neyrey's insight.My one reservation: Neyrey's not the most interesting writer in town....but don't let that stop you from learning from him. |
