5.0 out of 5 stars America's Best Kept Secret?
In-Grid is a big new star in France but can she cross over into America? 3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for, but good album
When I bought this I thought I was getting the French version of the album. I was not even aware that an English version existed, and all the sample tracks on the page were French. So I was really disappointed to find out that almost all of the tracks are in English. However, that's my own mistake and the album is still very nice. Her voice is just as perfect as ever, and...

5.0 out of 5 stars America's Best Kept Secret?, June 10, 2004

In-Grid is a big new star in France but can she cross over into America? Her infectious first single, "You Promised Me", got played to death on mainstream radio in a lot of the well-known stations over by where I live and yet when her debut album 'Rendez-vous' came out I couldn't find it anywhere! I had to resort to buying it online so apparently people in the states aren't embracing her music the way I thought they were... Once again, a great emerging artist comes around unnoticed while Britney Spears continues to get recognition, which is really quite sad. I'm terribly picky when it comes to this genre but this is one of the best dance-pop albums I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, and for once the lyrics and singing are anything but cheesy! The soaring rhythms, melodic beats and hooking chorus lines/verses of love and pain are extremely catchy! The songs are of course very club friendly yet sophisticated, too, with a lot of accordion thrown in to give it that French feel.

I'm tempted to compare In-Grid with Kylie Minogue since fans of her music will surely appreciate In-Grid as well but while they both know how to use their minimal ranges to seduce the listener with their gorgeous, ethereal voices, they definitely sound like their own unique self with slightly different styles. And, as a warning, I bought 'Rendez-vous' from Amazon and the track listing and artwork are not the same as what is being advertised here, and because there's so many different versions of this album floating around, I thought I'd save those who may be confused and say this is in fact the English version, albeit she does incorporate her native language from time to time.

Here is the actual track listing:
01. You Promised Me
02. We Tango Alone
03. More And More
04. In-Shock
05. Inside Of Me (my favorite!)
06. Evermore
07. Summer Souvenir
08. So Folle De Toi
09. Don't Believe
10. Slave To Thee
11. Only Lies
12. Get Lost

I love everything about this album and I hope to hear more from her in the future, but my only quarrel is how I wish some of the songs were longer. They all range to be a little over 3 minutes in length and so they almost seem to be teasers for you never want them to end!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dance album, May 9, 2004

This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
I first heard In-Grid's "You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu)" on the soundtrack to "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy". I immediately loved the song right away. It was incredibly catchy and had a really good beat. Whenever I would play the soundtrack I would always replay "You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu)". I have been looking for the full-length album that the song is on and finally found a copy today. I bought it right away. Although I don't understand a lick of French, I loved the cd. All the songs are undeniably infectious and hard to get out of my head. In-Grid has a nice, pleasant voice that doesn't overwhelm the music. I wouldn't compare her to Celine Dion because she doesn't resort to obnoxious vocal acrobatics that Miss Dion is notorious for using. I found it really difficult to pick out a single favorite song off the album. All the songs are really good. They have that catchy, danceable beat that I look for when I am in the mood to listen to dance music. I can never tire of "You Promised Me (Tu Es Foutu)" no matter how many times I have played it over and over again. This is one of those rare dance songs that can never get on my last nerves. I look forward to hearing more music from In-Grid. If "Rendez-Vous" is an indication of what to expect from her in the future, then I can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars French and English Version (with the accordian), August 7, 2004
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
Very nice! The CD includes French and English versions of the song "Tu Es Foutu/You Promised Me." Both versions include the accordian -- to give it that French ambiance. Good dance music - Most of the songs are in French but that did not make a difference to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern and refreshing "Summer" album, July 9, 2003
By
Sean Guymer (Bristol United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
After first hearing "Tu Es Fourtu" in the Abercombie and Fitch clothes store in the US I was instantly hooked! This track alone warrents buying the album, yet to be released in the UK it's a real find. Not being sure what to expect of the album, it wasn't a disapointment, packed full of catchy French pop in classic In-Grid style. If you can track down a copy with the two extra tracks (You Promised Me "Tu Es Fourtu" - English Version & Tu Es Foutu - Chill-Grid Mix) then you've found the ultamate, they complete the album perfectly. Im sure "You Promised Me" will be a huge summer hit here in the UK when it's released in July, but its nice to be one step ahead.
My only initial disapointment on the album was the suprising lack of Accordian (four tracks in all), this was a big seller for me on "Tu Es Fourtu", but after a couple of listens i soon forgave as each track took on its own persona with the odd catchy Piano or Guitar. So get ahead and buy this CD NOW, it's pure Summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars In-Grid Rendez-vous - great album, May 19, 2003
By
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
well, after i've heard the first single from this cd (tu es foutu), i though "it's nice". nothin' more. then, there was 'in-tango', and i felt it might be nice to listen to all cd's tracks. it was not a mistake. actually, i wonder, why those two songs have been chosen as singles, if there are a lot of better songs on this cd! when i've listened to this album, all tracks seemed to be similar or sth, but then i've listened it once again, and again, and now... there's been about two weeks, i have this cd, and there was no day without listening to in-grid. especially, i could recommend 'ah l'amour, l'amour' or 'va au diable' or 'pour toujours' and much more. her music makes me feel heppier, i just love it! great album! so, if U like pop music and wish to listen sth real good - it's worth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Americans think they're on the ball now... yaaa right!, June 21, 2004
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
In-Grid is only popular in America because her best song appeared on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy soundtrack. It is a shame that American music fans have to have the music thrown at them as usual. It is just like the radio stations and MTV. I'm an American and I have many friends who are like myself: we don't even acknowledge corporate puke like radio stations and music channels on television. And exactly.. this is how In-Grid makes her fame on the soil of America. Pretty sad, because she was around several years earlier and it wasn't until a corporate television show released a corporate music soundtrack that she was even recognized. The worst part is that In-Grid is just one, of MANY MANY MANY italian dance artists who produce beautiful music, yet less than a percent of a percent of Americans even know things like this, because they have most of their brain soaped up and ready for brainwash by bigger and badder things.
There are so many similar artists in Italy who have music just as good and even better than In-Grid that will never get the attention they deserve, because of problems like the above mentioned and because American record labels are not concerned about good music, but rather about money. You can start your journey of enjoying italo dance by purchasing music by the following artists (these are just the beginning, and once you find these, you shall be set free): Gabry Ponte, Gigi D'Agostino, Molella, DJ Ross, Mabel, Hotel Saint George, Floorfilla, Prezioso, and Natascha Hagen (she's from Spain but has the italo dance sound and she blows away In-Grid and her French lyrics). Most of these artists are the key leaders in the italo dance genre, and their music is available on Amazon and in most online import music stores. Don't try a corporate store in your local mall. That is like trying to buy marijuana at a supermarket... they ain't never seen it and they ain't never gonna carry it. Here is your bonus tip: Find the italian dance artist "Saline".. she produced only one song in her career and it is called "I'd Kill To Touch You". I guarantee after you hear this song, you will look at In-Grid in a whole entire different way. You will realize that there really is more than meets the eye. You don't have to be fed dog food your entire life, that is, unless you like it. Good luck in your journey, and remember, In-Grid is great, but she is just the beginning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Truly interesting, October 22, 2004
This review is from: Rendez Vous (Audio CD)
Ok, so everyone who's heard "You Promised Me" is probably VERY tired of it.

Well, perhaps you shouldn't get this album. It is laced with French and Italian influences, set to hypnotic dance beats and trancy synths.

Personally I love the album. The Benassi Brothers dipped a hand for the track "Summer Souvenir" which makes it fun, exciting, and a bit psychotic towards the end.

While some of the songs on this disc are similar, overall the disc is very appealing and a lot of fun to listen to. Her voice, while thickly accented, is easy and enjoyable to sing to, and the songs are simple enough to be universally understandable.

I recommend it, it's a great dancey album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Buy!, November 3, 2004
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
I am in love with this cd. I had previously limited my French cds to just Alizee and a little bit of Garou, but this cd is my favorite. It has that great hit Tu es foutu, but also alot of other songs that are cathcy and fun. She has the kind of music hat you would listen to to cheer yourself up. I love it and highly recommend it to those tired of American pop and especially those who liked Alizee.

4.0 out of 5 stars here's the REAL Patricia Kaas, February 15, 2004
By
This review is from: Rendez-Vous (Audio CD)
quelles belles surprises! Produced by Italian disco veteran Larry Pignagnoli (the source of all those great Yvonne K and Spagna singles from the mid-1980s (and later), In-Grid, though an Italian damsel, sings in French, in a voice that often sounds like Patricia Kaas updating Edith Piaf -- except that where Kaas tries too hard to manage it, In-Grid makes it sound easy. Easier still because unlike most of Kaas's music, In-Grid's arrangements catch the Paris moment: Paris house music, Paris lounge, Paris Combo, Paris Stephane Poumpougnac -- not to mention bal musette and Paris tango. At times she even sounds Eurodisco, and with L. Pigagnoli aboard, why not? In addition to Mlle Kaas, Zazie, La grande Sophie, Axelle Red, and Miss Kittin all should pay attention to this new "variete vedette"...
