5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, the DVD is NTSC (Region 0) and widescreen too!
I just picked up the DVD through the rendezvousdvd.com website, and can confirm it plays just fine on United States NTSC DVD players. The DVD cost me about 25 United States dollars, including shipping from Great Britain, and arrived about a week after I ordered it. The picture quality is really only about VHS level. But considering it was filmed very early in the...

2.0 out of 5 stars View only with a mega screen with mega sound system
I saw this short short film - years ago at a theatre. At that time this short was a as prelude to a feature length film and it was unique at that time and thus enjoyable. Recently I this film on video on both a regular 27 inch TV and wide screen TV connected to a powerful audio system. If you do not have the wide screen TV and great audio system do not bother. The...

But considering it was filmed very early in the morning (note all the garbage trucks!) and the camera was car-mounted, I'm not sure the original film was exactly reference quality. The DVD is widescreen and in color, but it is not anamorphic. The sound is great - very crisp and clean. If, after watching this movie, you don't want to hop in a sports car and take off, there's something wrong with you! On a dollars per minute basis, this may be one of the most expensive DVDs available, but it's worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind-boggling. Gobsmacking. Unbelievable, May 24, 2000
This review is from: Rendezvous [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I've not seen the video, but nearly 30 years ago I saw the film on 35mm, and it was so intense, that the memory of it has never left me. It's like watching Leo Kottke in full flight on his 12-string; you see it, you hear it, but nonetheless your mind refuses to accept that it's possible.

Buy it.

Buy it now.

And while you wait for it to arrive, practice holding your breath for 9 minutes, as you'll need that ability.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Pucker factor, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Rendezvous [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Without a doubt the most intense 9 minutes you will ever experience! Witness what you always wish you could do-driving full-bore through early-morning streets heedless of personal safety (and the safety of those around you!), ignoring traffic laws and the laws of physics, on your way to meet a beautiful woman in your own Ferrari!

4.0 out of 5 stars See why he was arrrested for making this movie., March 17, 1999

An action-packed ten minute film. Lelouch strapped a 16mm camera to the front of his car and took off to meet his wife before the can of film ran out. He races through the streets of Paris at top speed, narrowly missing other cars, people and those pesky trash trucks! It had me screaming because it was real. It wasn't done with any special effects. When the film was screened, Lelouch was arrested. Watch this film and see why.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, June 17, 2003

This review is from: Rendezvous [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I just purchased the DVD of this through another website and I must say all of the hype I heard about it was true. I had heard about this movie for years from friends and I finally was able to see it for myself. This is truely amazing film. The myth that surrounds the movie only make it more enjoyable, but whipping through early morning Paris with the sounds of the V12 roaring make this a film that must be watched. It is simply a piece of driving artistry that almost anyone could appreciate. Whether or not you purchase it, everyone should see it. Without a doubt the most amazing 9 minutes of film, I have ever seen. White-knuckle film.

This movie is simply stunning. I first saw it in 1989 and it has stayed in my memory ever since as one of the best and most exciting sensory rushes ever. If you want to get the adrenalin running.. this is it. What differentiates this from other " speed " movies is, that this one was not choerographed in any way. He just did it! and its stunning!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rendezvous, April 23, 2001

A thrilling, High revving, fast drive through Paris at dawn in a 275GTB Ferrari. The camera is strapped right to the front of the car so you're almost in it! A great nine minutes of intense driving as LeLouche tears around Paris screeching the tyres and driving his Ferrari as it was made to be driven. An absolute must for Ferrari enthusiasts and sportscar enthusiasts alike. A great film to view and worthwhile purchase even if it is a little expensive for 9 minutes of viewing. Great stuff!!!

I was 10 years old when I saw `Rendezvous' for the first time. It was 1981 and my father brought it home on a 16mm projector version, and showed it on the family slide projector screen. As a kid I was truly blown away, and as an adult I am still astonished by this work. Truthfully, I feel that anyone who has seen these nine breathtaking minutes of amazing footage will be left with an indelible mark in his or her mind. I was very excited to see that this was finally out on DVD after so many years, and although it is not available here at Amazon, it is available for purchase over at speedtv.com. I would highly recommend this wonderful Claude Lelouche work for anyone who enjoys a fast paced chase scene, or just the thrill of seeing beautiful European shops, avenues and cobblestone streets fly by at more than 100 mph. Most Hollywood cinematic features that involve an element such as this only wish they could emulate it with such reality, for reality is what `Rendezvous' truly is.

On Claude Lelouch's website he says that he was driving the car hinself, with a camera operator next to him. He also says that he had "spotters" at certain intersections that were there to signal him if they saw cars coming that might get in his way, but that the necessity never arose. You can check out the website at claudelelouch.com, but it's all in french. It also has an account of his encounter with the "prefet de police".
