Rendezvous with Rama is about humanity's first contact with an alien spacecraft. A large unknown cylindrical object (which is dubbed 'Rama') has entered the solar system and it's the job of a small crew on a ship called the Endeavour to land on the object and investigate. At first Rama doesn't seem like much more then just a big empty cylinder but as the crew investigates further they find that Rama is much more than that. Soon more questions are raised than answered and the crew on the Endeavour goes on mind-bending investigations to learn more about this odd space craft.

Rendezvous with Rama is a very fast-paced read that never really gets boring. Some of the scenes Clark describes are truly mind-bending. Clark's prose is simple but effective enough to make these scenes pop right out of the pages. The character development is a bit lacking but I don't think Clark was aiming for deep characters anyways; this book is all about the scenery.

I highly recommend this book! If you are unfamiliar with Clarks work then this is a great place to start!
