4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to your DVD audio collection, January 4, 2009

This review is from: Renee Fleming (DVD Audio)
As a casual opera fan but a huge music fan with a critical ear nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD-audio album. Renee Fleming has such a powerful voice and a real command over different dynamic textures - truly amazing! The audio quality is first-rate, as can be expected from this audio format, and there is even some subtle 5.1 mixing that really immerses the listener in sound. Other classical DVD audios merely use the 5.1 surround to add a reverb effect, thankfully not the case here.

There are a few sections where Ms. Fleming is perhaps a little too forceful when enunciating her consonants, particularly in the lighter tracks, as compared to other renditions I have heard ("O mio babbino caro" is a good example). Also, the only way for me to really feel these tracks was by raising the volume almost to the maximum (a trait I've found to be quite common in classical DVD audio discs).

Niggles aside, I recommend you pick this disc up. It's a solid addition to your DVD audio music library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, September 29, 2008

I bought this title because I don't have much operatic vocal in my DVD-A, SACD collection. I wasn't even that familiar with Renee Fleming's work. But I am very happy to discover the depth of her performance and warmth of her voice in this simple collection of pieces.

The subtle 5.1 surround mix and high res reproduction are a nice plus and make this a recommended addition to any music library.

The stunning cover photo caught my eye a few years ago when I purchased this CD. The incredible music within captured my heart. Renee Fleming is always a joy to listen to.
