5.0 out of 5 stars Another Rave for Renees Garden, May 31, 2009

This review is from: Renee's Garden - Container Tomato - Super Bush
As usual, Renees Garden seeds do not dissapoint! All of my seeds have come up very nicely. My largest plants is about 12 inches high now. I'm looking forward to the harvest. The seeds germinated before my other tomato seeds did, by at least 3 days. Extremely happy, and will by them again next year.

I started using hydroponics in November to grow lettuce for fresh salad greens. In mid-December, I planted eight Tomato Super Bush seeds. Every seed sprouted and is growing well. The leaves are well formed and a deep green in color. The plants are approximately six inches tall now, and I am eagerly awaiting blossums. So far, the seeds have performed better expected. I expect the tomatoes will be better than average too.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent tomato for small spaces., July 25, 2011
This review is from: Renee's Garden - Container Tomato - Super Bush
I was looking for plants of the Patio variety, which I had been growing for many years. I wanted a variety that would grow well in a pair of 5 gallon buckets. the standard and cherry varieties that I had used last year had not worked out very well. My garden center no longer stocked Patio, and recommended Superbush instead. The Superbush plants had the same attractive foliage that I remembered from Patio, so I decided to give them a try. Two plants went into five gallon buckets and another went into a smaller (about 3 gallon) urn planter with lobelias, snapdragons and petunias. this was about the second week in May. All of the plants grew well for about a week when something ate one of the 5 gallon plants. Since my garden center was sold out of Superbush, I replaced it with one of the Goliath variety. which turned out to be a faster growing and much larger plant. All three plants continued to grow well through May and June. As the weather moved into hot days of july, The Goliath began to suffer from drying out too quickly, needing to be watered daily and,on some really hot days, twice a day. the Superbush in the urn planter also need daily watering. By mid july all three plants had begun producing ripe fruit. Because of drying out too fast, I had some problem with blossom end rot, but once I adopted the practice of watering each plant early each day before the heat became intense, I have had no problem. Now I make it a point to check each plant morning and evening and all are doing well.
Conclusion; Superbush Is an excellent plant for medium to large containers. It can also be grown in smaller containers as long as care is taken to water frequently. It may, as advertised, also do fairly well in upside down pots as long as it is watered daily. As a side note, Goliath seems to need a somewhat larger pot, possibly 14 inches or larger, and does seem to need staking, but it seems well worth the effort.
Both varieties produce both more and larger tomatoes than the older Patio hybrid with Goliath producing the largest fruit of the two. Both varieties should be an excellent choice for hydroponic and phytoculture. At this stage (late July) both varieties show signs of many more tomatoes still coming on.
I will definitely want to grow Superbush in my containers next year. If I grow Goliath, I will use a larger pot or grow it in the ground.
