About the Author

Though my name is not really Erica Stevens, it is a pen name that I chose in memory of two amazing friends lost too soon, I do however live in Mass with my wonderful husband and our fish Klinger, and puppy Loki. I have a large and crazy family that I fit in well with. I am thankful every day for the love and laughter they have brought to my life. I have always loved to write and am an avid reader.

THOUGHTS

Renegade, book 2 is the follow up to Captured (The Captive Series Book 1). In book 2, I found the first few chapters of the story intense as Braith's anger towards Aria fuels him. It was definitely a darker side of him compared to book 1. As the story progressed and the intensity was over, the story then focuses on the history and back story of the characters and their families. This then introduces us to new characters as well as Braith's father, the king, who is apparently on everyone's 'I Hate You List'.

I find Aria and Braith's story a bit like a twisted version of Romeo and Juliet. Their connection is so strong that if anyone breaths wrong on Aria, Braith is ready to kill. This connection is later explained as certain things starts to fall into place between Aria and Braith. When Aria and Braith first connect again in the woods, it was intense, exciting, a bit dangerous and intriguing as their love/hate relationship goes to another level. While all this is going on, I do feel sorry for Max. Max was captured along with Aria in book 1. His feelings are changing for Aria and you can't help but feel for what he is going through.

Overall, interesting story/plot and characters. With how the story ends, there will be a book 3. For me, that's a bit annoying when the same characters are continuous in a series. For me that can dwindle my interest pretty quick if there isn't any closure. Nevertheless, that's my opinion, but others may feel different. But book 1 and 2 for me was interesting and I think worth the read definitely.

I read 'Renegade' the day after I finished 'Captured' and I found that while the story advanced, there was no real improvement in the development of the characters. Here me out-

The book picks up two months after 'Captured' and while Aria is with her family, she is not really. Aria's heart is still with the Prince and she cannot, as much as she seems to try, let go and move on with Max, the stable choice. Aria and her family are on the run, living in the caves of the forrest. The cave is a great metaphor for what Aria is feeling and she cannot stand staying in the tight, damp and dark confinds of the cave. Aria goes out for a hunt and stumbles upon the Prince. The blood bond between them is something that niether one of them expected- and more about this phenom is drawn out towards the end of the book.

The insanity of the Prince trying to be with Aria is predictable, they are eventually found out and choose to run, together. There a few action scences that I skimmed over because it seemed repetative. The same problem regarding the other stories I have read by Stevens remains- the internal dialouge of the characters and their feelings about certain situations. There is the over and over long paragraphs with the almost the same sentences throughout the story- the same realizations, it gets a little frustrating. While I can grasp what each character feels, it would be nice if they told one anohter as opposed to the mountains of paragraphs that re-hash the same thing. These mainly deal with what each character thinks about people, places and eventually one another.

The intense kisses are getting old. I mean come on, take the realtionship up a notch.

Aria is lost without Braith, not even her love of nature can heal her wounded heart. All she can think about his her love and of it was really twisted by Braith's secret. Braith is also lost, but in blood lust that can not sedate him. He is broken because Aria left him after she made a promise to love and never leave him.

The book picks up right where it left off, you will feel there pain, happiness, frustration and protectiveness for each other is this book.

I loved that there this book never ever made me doubt Arianna's and Braith's love for each other and they have a lot of obstacles to over come. I am can not wait until book three is out to see what becomes of Max and his heart breaking tribulations in war and in lost love, can he be trusted again? I would love to see more of William, Daniel and there father dialogue wise during the war an also Braith's sister Melinda, brother Jack, the vampire girl and his brothers in law Ashby come to life as well. The war is coming and it's going to be epic.

5/5 Deliciously, wonderful stars. Only question I have is, whens the next book coming out? I am definitly checking out the other books by this author.

The first book on this series was solely based on a blooming love story and though it was slow and repetitive, I was drawn to the concept of a world where vamps ruled and humans were blood slaves. I purchased book 2 in hopes that the story would pick up in pace and reach a deeper level. I was hoping, as a reader, I would connect with more characters and get to explore this world more in depth.

Needless to say, those hopes were crushed about halfway through the book.

It began interesting enough and the first few chapters were rather enjoyable, however I became completely bored with repetition and way too much internal dialogue. It was a great concept that fell flat on its ass with poor writing and sloppy deliverance.

I loved aria in the beginning of book 1. She seemed strong yet vulnerable and cunningly smart. Getting to know her through book 1 and 2, I see how whiny, weak and stupid she really is. If I had to read about tears welling in her eyes one more time I swear I was going to throw my kindle at the wall. Get a backbone, aria, you've grown up in the middle of a raging war against vamps and humans.

And as far as braith goes, we'll he couldn't be more if a mix of Christian grey and Edward cullin. Have some originality, Stevens. And I'm sorry but muscles do not "ripple" through men's arms and a single drop of blood falling to the floor is not audible, at least not to humans. Take note of this, aria.

And you can not introduce a very important character and member of the main characters family in the end of book 2!!! and expect your reader to have any kind of emotional connection with them.

I know I am nit-picking here but it's a few hundred statements, inconsistencies and lines of repetitive internal dialogue that made this series impossible for me to stay awake through.

Like I said, Stevens, great concept. Very poor execution.

More About the Author

Though Erica Stevens is a pen name I created in memory of two friends, I actually do live in Mass with my amazing husband. I was born in New York and moved to Mass as a child. I spent my time growing up between NY and Mass, so I have some interesting times when sports games roll around. I was fortunate enough to marry my best friend over three years ago, and I don't know what I'd do without him. I have a large, crazy, fun loving family that just loves to laugh. My parents can always make me smile and are the strongest people I know. I have an older brother and sister, and a younger sister, who have blessed me with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. I am nowhere near as old as the great nieces and nephews make me sound. I love to read and have wanted to be a writer since I was nine years old.
