I have been a fan of RF for years, but have been disappointed with his last few solo releases. I was uncertain about this CD before I got it because I didn't know how Robben and Landau would work together.
But I was very pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best CD's I've gotten in a while. It's more of a rock CD, but the songs are very well written, and the arrangements and production make this CD great.
Some songs remind me of RF's Blue Line and Jing Chi. I don't see it as a "guitar" CD. It's more song driven. But the guitar tones and playing are excellent. I don't want to leave out Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Their playing is top notch, as always.
I think any fan of either one of these guys would love this CD. I do.

Renegade Creation is a fantastic band, with four brilliant musicians melding their talents ( no ego nonsense ) . Having just seen them at Yoshi's, in Oakland, I was mesmerized by their sound , and four -part interplay ! Michael Landau's tone , playing style , and vocals are so different from Robben Ford's- yet they mesh & play off of each other in amazing ways . The rhythm section of Jimmy Haslip & Gary Novak is one of the best around , with power & finesse in abundance !! The Renegade Creation cd is a solid first effort, with so much to hear with repeated listenings. One of 2010's more risky, putting it on the line recordings - fascinating / stimulating stuff !!!

Just saw your show down here at in Sydney Australia at the Factory Theatre, Marrickville. Gary Novac looked like he was dying from the heat behind the kit, but the explosive drumming he pulled off towards the end of the set was the Rock/Blues equivalent of the burning of Valhalla at the end of Wagner's Twilight of the Gods. Which is a fitting metaphor because these guys took us all on a guitar driven journey with the most idiosyncratic jamming I've seen in years.

Robben was exquisite in his guitar licks and rhythm guitar, and Landau's experimental guitar playing was a revelation. Forget all those pretenders like Vai and Satriani, these were professional musicians without histrionics, with great ideas, propulsion, subtlety when required and an ability to entertain and challenge their audience.

The Bass Player was fabuluous. At one point of the night someone screamed out "Play us a Bass Solo !" and he replied "That's what I've been doing all night" which was very true. His fingers moved faster than Fats Waller, and he lay down a groove so compelling that it didn't need to co-exist with the remainder of the band. Thanks for the experience !

This live show was virtuoso AAA+++. Have followed RF, JH, & GN's careers for many, many years. Surprise! Michael Landau rocked out and melded perfectly with the band. As always Robben amazed any advanced gtr player, Gary and Jimmy were incredibly powerful and tight (as always) and Michael added an extra tasty dimension weaving in a little complex jazz, Jeff Beckish sometimes, and even some incredibly quick Carl Perkins rockabilly riffs that fit the hard edge amazingly well. The guys were relaxed while working their butts off. No holds barred!!!!
The album is good but pales to the live show we've just experienced! A year later makes a big difference since the studio album came out (also the live at Peter's album). Wish this performance was recorded___don't know if it was.

NOTE TO RENEGADE CREATION........NEED MORE RECORDINGS!!

All the best guys,

This album is pretty amazing. Those who buy this album on the strength of Robben Ford as a blues player might be a little disoriented because it is not a traditional blues album. It kind of defies neat categorization. It is four VERY talented musicians enjoying what they do best- listening to each other and playing with, not over, each other. I have seen Renegade Creation live, Robben Ford live, Michael Landau live and am amazed how anyone can have that kind of command of music. You can certainly hear it on this one.

I guess my title is a little harsh. So let me apologize for that right now, after all it takes a lot to write and produce and distribute an album. Also the musicians on this album are good musicians but not great song writters. This album is well produced and the sound quality is great but the lyrics are down right silly at times.

They would have been better served in finding a good lead singer and a better song writer. The songs subject matter is dated and as I said silly at times. Not what I expected from an obviously mature group of musicians.

I guess to the music was just plain predictable, no real flash, no zingers, no real raw hunger that some people have. I was bored with this album after 30 seconds into it. I skipped forward through every song to see if anything really stood out. I then gave it a complete listen from start to finish on 3 different occasions to see if I could be objective and find something appealing about this album. Sadly, I could not find the shinning spot in this album. Too bad because I'm sure they are more than capable to do so. They just didn't do it here.

To "Renegade Creation", Sorry Boy's but I think you can do better and need to do so before you get any more of my money. Better Luck next time. S-
