But I was very pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best CD's I've gotten in a while. It's more of a rock CD, but the songs are very well written, and the arrangements and production make this CD great.
Some songs remind me of RF's Blue Line and Jing Chi. I don't see it as a "guitar" CD. It's more song driven. But the guitar tones and playing are excellent. I don't want to leave out Jimmy Haslip and Gary Novak. Their playing is top notch, as always.
I think any fan of either one of these guys would love this CD. I do.
Robben was exquisite in his guitar licks and rhythm guitar, and Landau's experimental guitar playing was a revelation. Forget all those pretenders like Vai and Satriani, these were professional musicians without histrionics, with great ideas, propulsion, subtlety when required and an ability to entertain and challenge their audience.
The Bass Player was fabuluous. At one point of the night someone screamed out "Play us a Bass Solo !" and he replied "That's what I've been doing all night" which was very true. His fingers moved faster than Fats Waller, and he lay down a groove so compelling that it didn't need to co-exist with the remainder of the band. Thanks for the experience !
The album is good but pales to the live show we've just experienced! A year later makes a big difference since the studio album came out (also the live at Peter's album). Wish this performance was recorded___don't know if it was.
NOTE TO RENEGADE CREATION........NEED MORE RECORDINGS!!
All the best guys,
They would have been better served in finding a good lead singer and a better song writer. The songs subject matter is dated and as I said silly at times. Not what I expected from an obviously mature group of musicians.
I guess to the music was just plain predictable, no real flash, no zingers, no real raw hunger that some people have. I was bored with this album after 30 seconds into it. I skipped forward through every song to see if anything really stood out. I then gave it a complete listen from start to finish on 3 different occasions to see if I could be objective and find something appealing about this album. Sadly, I could not find the shinning spot in this album. Too bad because I'm sure they are more than capable to do so. They just didn't do it here.
To "Renegade Creation", Sorry Boy's but I think you can do better and need to do so before you get any more of my money. Better Luck next time. S-

I love the past work of all these musicians but this concept just doesn't work for me. First of all the similarities between Landau's voice and that of Mark Knopfler are just too... Read morePublished on March 22, 2011 by A.E. Pagano
Superb CD! The combination of Michael's and Robben's guitar playing blend so well together. This CD is serious ear candy for sure. The songs are fantastic. Read morePublished on February 5, 2011 by John Krier
Saw these guys at the Compund in Scottsdale.....great show. Robben pulls his reigns in a little bit, I think to avoid a gunsinger type shootout. Read morePublished on October 19, 2010 by MLT45
