Book Description

Single mother, Jenny Holloway, has her hands full running a 1200-acre ranch, and keeping her daredevil son out of the emergency room. So when her foreman suggests she hire on his son Gil Montgomery, who just got home from the war, Jenny jumps at the opportunity of having another skilled cowboy around.

Gil was used to taking orders, even from women. What he wasn't prepared for was the feelings this little firecracker of a woman triggered in him. Jenny is a lot like the bronco she's rescued and is now trying to break. The unexpected death of her husband has left her jaded and afraid to risk her heart getting broken again. Somehow, he has to gain her trust and prove that he isn't going anywhere.

4 Stars from Romantic Times!

TwoLipsReviews: Renegade Hearts is a beautiful story about faith, perseverance, hard work, and the ability to love again.  Anne Patrick did a wonderful job on Jenny and Gil's story and on describing the workings of a ranch.  This is a book that was well worth reading and will definitely be read again.

Martha's Bookshelf gave it 4.5 stars!
The characters are real and draw you into their world. Even young Zach is a well developed character and you can feel the exuberant boy in him. The author portrays good detail for the cattle ranching and breeding business that provides fullness for the setting and plot. There are trained horses, horses to be trained and foals to marvel over. The plot includes a bit of thievery and suspense, in addition to the romance. Both plot elements kept me interested in how things would be handled... This is a truly lovely, sweet read that will leave you with a nice "ahhh" felling when it is done.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little romance and suspense September 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
My Thoughts:

I am a big fan of Anne's so it was no surprise I loved this book. Jenny lost her husband 2 years ago to an accident and has been running the ranch on her own and taking care of her son Zach. She has no room for romance as she works too hard. When Montgomery offers he son to b hired to help out around the ranch, Jenny jumps at the chance. He just got home from the war and needs a change. Zach and Gil take to one another right from the first meeting. Can Jenny make room in her heart for another man? Gil would love to make Jenny and Zach part of his family.

I loved the characters and the setting. A little bit of a western touch to the romance. He hurdles Jenny has to go through was enlightening. The twists in the book make for a great suspense. The book has a little bit of everything to entice the reader. Another great book I would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Renegade Hearts February 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Anne Patrick's Renegade Hearts kept my interest through out the entire novel. Though I'm a city girl, Anne's story made me want to move to a ranch. Her extensive knowledge of horses is evident. I found her characters' love of family endearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars a story that woes your heart February 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a plus, plus read for me: horses, a little suspense and warm family romance.

Jenny is a strong woman fighting to continue the success of the cattle ranch she and her husband, Rick, struggled to build. Jenny has learned that she has to be tough so she isn't taken advantage of in the competitive and tough world of cattle breeding. Her husband has been dead for several years and in addition to the ranch, Jenny has her hands full with their 10 year old son, Zach.

Gil is the 32 year old son of the ranch foreman. He has returned home to recover from injuries received in Iraq. Gil is glad to have the hard ranch work to distract him from his war memories. Even more distracting is the feisty boss lady. Even though she is experienced and capable it is clear that she is trying to handle everything by herself. When he sees her face down a rogue horse he is ready to step in and protect her. She may not think she wants or needs another man around, but Gil is determined to show her he is the right man to help her with the ranch and with raising a young boy.

It is wonderful that Gil realizes the importance of developing a relationship with Zach as well as going slowly with Jenny. Jen has to be coaxed to see that she can take the risk of loving again.

The characters are real and draw you into their world. Even young Zach is a well developed character and you can feel the exuberant boy in him. The author portrays good detail for the cattle ranching and breeding business that provides fullness for the setting and plot. There are trained horses, horses to be trained and foals to marvel over. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read November 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
In Renegade Hearts, author Anne Patrick takes a bunch of strong and delightful characters and presents a charming, gentle story of family love, family differences, of loss and the courage to go forward. And as is her way, Ms Patrick chucks in some suspense and weaves it through the book, not revealing the outcome until the end of the story.

Widowed for two years, Jenny Holloway has a farm to run, a young son to raise, a reputation to build on and the arrival of her stockman's son, Gil, to contend with. So she's strong, yes, but not perfect. She discovers plenty of insecurities she has to deal with. She's not prepared to forgive her step-father for the harsh things he said at her husband's funeral, and she often stumbles when trying to explain her actions to her son. And when it comes to her growing feelings for Gil, she's left high and dry trying to come to terms with them let alone explain them to herself, or anyone else. Her passionate love of horses means she sets up a rescue operation with her friend and in doing so goes head-to-head with an influential but disliked local.

Injured in the line of duty, Gil is not pleased to find himself heading back home to the place he couldn't wait to leave, until he meets Jenny Holloway and accepts a job on her farm.

But did he accept the job because he needed it, or because he'd fallen in love with the woman on first sight?

So many inner conflicts are going on within every character, both major and secondary. And Ms Patrick has a full cast of them. Zach, Jenny's son is a charmer and worked his way into this reader's heart almost instantly. The interaction between Zach and Gil as they get to know each other is masterful and heart-warming.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just LOVED Renegade Hearts! September 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Jenny Holloway is a widow who's running a 1200-acre ranch and raising her son Zach on her own. She likes being busy but she could really use some help. Her foreman, Buddy, suggests she hire his son Gil Montgomery who has recently returned home from his military duty. After meeting Gil, Jenny readily agrees to hire him on. She knows she could never find the kind of love she had with her husband, so why does her stomach do flip-flops whenever he's near. Gil Montgomery has ranching in his blood. Though his outward scars from the war have healed he knows this job is just want he needs for his inward healing. Jenny causes his heart to stir in ways it hasn't before but he knows that since her husbands death she's placed big walls around her heart. The more they work together the more he knows that Jenny and Zach are the future he's looking for but will he ever be able to convince Jenny?

I knew when I saw the totally awesome cover of Renegade Hearts that I absolutely had to find out the tale within. I was immediately drawn in by the gentle prose of this story. It truly matched the cover with an easy ebb and flow that I just loved! Though it was not an edge-of-your-seat type story I found myself glued to the pages because I became so involved with its true-to-life well-drawn characters. You will fall in love with each one them. Gil was an excellent leading man. I just loved the way he was with Jenny and Zach. (Big sigh! Jenny is someone to admire. She was strong and independent but reasonable and tender. Zach will steal your heart hands down! He is such a great little man! And Buddy, Gil's Dad, was a total gem! Now don't get me wrong, this did have a mystery to it and as typical with Anne Patrick's stories, you don't find out the whole truth until the end.
