Book Description

December 1, 2003
Young Slasher is curious about everything he sees - and he has a penchant for trouble. He is a carnivore by birth. He is civilized by choice. He is fearless by nature. He is the hybrid son of a mixed marriage whose parents  have fled their home planet to find greater tolerance among the star worlds. He will be raised to Hunt Law, and ironically, trained by an old clan warrior who has also left his birth place to fulfill his life's quest. The teacher has found the student. The boy will become Renegade, trained to handle anything another world can throw at him; and to protect his people from any creature that threatens them. But first he must pass increasingly severe survival tests and learn to hunt even the most dangerous beasts, until  he faces the most deadly trial of all - the Master Hunt - which he must take alone, with life or death at  trail's end...And he learns that someone doesn't want him to succeed...

About the Author

Born in the Motor City, Detroit, and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. Constance Rossman was writing as soon as she could move a pencil around. With a BA degree from Wayne State University, she's worked as a reporter, editor, and columnist for several metro newspapers. Her shelves are stacked with books to read; her files are filled with stories and articles she's written. After a brief stint living in Nevada, "a coin drop" away from Las Vegas," she, her husband Gary, and son John moved to western Michigan near Ludington. About "Renegade," she says, "His story demanded to be written, and would not let me alone until I wrote it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, September 1, 2004
By
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Hardcover)
I am a very finnicky reader. If I cannot get hooked in a book by the end of the 1st page, I will not read it. This was a great book, I held my breath until the very end. The best part was the master hunt; All three boys basically grew up together(though in different families)they had to hunt alone for this master hunt and draw upon what their leader, Broken Spear, had taught them. Even though mistakes were made, they were able to overcome the impossiblities that they alone were faced with; and were all able to overcome the adversity in their lives and graduate to Master Hunters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Renegade a great adventure, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Hardcover)
Renegade the Hunter is an absolutely great tale of adventure.
The main character is a young carnivore on an alien planet learning the ways of his ancestors.
He has multiple encounters with the unknown on his journey, barely surviving some of them.
The author paints a fascinating picture: "A big luminous form shimmered near the end of the bough. Two huge golden eyes stared into mine. Two phosphor-white fangs curved from its upper jaw."
It is extremely engrossing, a five star novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Hunting !, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Paperback)

Renegade was born fearless. His mother decided that he should join a class taught by an Esteemed Hunter. These classes introduced to Renegade to some of his closest friends, Dasrylion and Rampage, each named appropriately. The three young hunters spent hours together, both in the classroom and while playing. Each complemented each other in classes. Together, they rose the ranks while preparing for the Master Hunt.

When Renegade's parents were killed while hunting, Broken Spear decided to take the young lad in. Renegade continued his classes until the Esteemed Hunter had no more to teach each of the boys. They went on several hunts, sometimes together and sometimes apart. But then it was time for the Master Hunt. Broken Spear had trouble letting his young students go, but he knew that he prepared them the best he could. The rest was out of his control.

C. L. Rossman wrote a dynamic novel in Renegade, the Hunter. It follows the troubled life of all three boys and their teacher. Rossman writes with great detail, both of the environment and the animals being hunted. She paints a beautiful picture so that readers will follow her every word.
