Great Book,
By Steve "Steve" (Mesa, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Hardcover)
I am a very finnicky reader. If I cannot get hooked in a book by the end of the 1st page, I will not read it. This was a great book, I held my breath until the very end. The best part was the master hunt; All three boys basically grew up together(though in different families)they had to hunt alone for this master hunt and draw upon what their leader, Broken Spear, had taught them. Even though mistakes were made, they were able to overcome the impossiblities that they alone were faced with; and were all able to overcome the adversity in their lives and graduate to Master Hunters.

Renegade a great adventure,
By Cornel L. Choskey (Mesa, Az. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Hardcover)
Renegade the Hunter is an absolutely great tale of adventure. The main character is a young carnivore on an alien planet learning the ways of his ancestors. He has multiple encounters with the unknown on his journey, barely surviving some of them. The author paints a fascinating picture: "A big luminous form shimmered near the end of the bough. Two huge golden eyes stared into mine. Two phosphor-white fangs curved from its upper jaw." It is extremely engrossing, a five star novel.

Good Hunting !,

This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Paperback)
Renegade was born fearless. His mother decided that he should join a class taught by an Esteemed Hunter. These classes introduced to Renegade to some of his closest friends, Dasrylion and Rampage, each named appropriately. The three young hunters spent hours together, both in the classroom and while playing. Each complemented each other in classes. Together, they rose the ranks while preparing for the Master Hunt. When Renegade's parents were killed while hunting, Broken Spear decided to take the young lad in. Renegade continued his classes until the Esteemed Hunter had no more to teach each of the boys. They went on several hunts, sometimes together and sometimes apart. But then it was time for the Master Hunt. Broken Spear had trouble letting his young students go, but he knew that he prepared them the best he could. The rest was out of his control. C. L. Rossman wrote a dynamic novel in Renegade, the Hunter. It follows the troubled life of all three boys and their teacher. Rossman writes with great detail, both of the environment and the animals being hunted. She paints a beautiful picture so that readers will follow her every word.

A good read!,
By Armchair Interviews (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Paperback)
Young Slasher's huntress mother, Kr'ra'klv'tt (Sun and Shadow) believed her son would be special. With that belief the huntress requests of Broken Spear, the great warrior of the Rydderrak Clan, that he teach Slasher the Hunt Law and Code of Honor. The warrior agrees to teach Slasher "whatever he can learn." And while Slasher learns, Broken Spear studies him and eventually he earns his new name: Renegade.
Renegade and his two friends are taught all they must know to protect their people from all and anything that would threaten them. But the last test of the Hunt Law is the most important and must be performed alone. Renegade must, at risk of his own death, face the Master Hunt. Will he succeed? Is there someone who would stand in his way? Armchair Interviews says: Renegade The Hunter is a unique, creative and interesting adventure that is a combination of the primitive and the high tech. If you enjoy Science Fiction/Fantasy, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Basic carnivore instinct meets high tech,

This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Paperback)
Often fantasy novels involve quests through dangerous environs to retrieve arkane artifacts to do nothing less than save the country, if not the world, if not the known universe.Renegade: The Hunter is a pleasant variation. Really it is a coming of age story set in an amazing milieu. The texture of the society reaches back in time when societies were based on hunting, and when good hunters were revered for their skills in providing for the tribe. Then it merges the primal forces with the high tech wizardry of interstellar travel. The combination provides exceptional combinations of twists and experiences as three young hunters learn from the old master. The reader learns and grows with Renegade and his two friends as they survive the training and trials of becoming Master Hunters. I was particularly drawn to Broken Spear, the old Master Hunter and teacher. The hunting philosopy and code intrigued me as I experienced the growth process with they young novices. The novel is complete within itself, but I certainly hope there will be more adventures in the lives of the three young hunters

A mix of primitive and high-tech...,

This review is from: Renegade: The Hunter (Paperback)
The huntress mother of Young Slasher knew very early that he would be special. The huntress went to "Broken Spear, Esteemed Great Warrior of the Clan Rydderrak" to ask for her son to be raised to Hunt Law. The old clan warrior agreed. Young Slasher earned his new name, Renegade. Renegade would be trained to handle anything that any world could possibly throw at him. He and his two friends, Dasrylion and Rampage, would endure harsh training, severe survival tests, and (eventually) the most lethal trial of all - The Master Hunter. The last was solo. Each teen must endure the Master Hunt alone, knowing that many young hunters never returned from the ultimate hunt. **** An interesting mix of primitive hunting/training and high-tech gadgets kept me guessing as to what would happen next. The author ended the novel in a way that it could be "stand-alone" OR someday have a sequel. The story left me with the wonderful feeling of victory for Renegade and hopeful for another adventure with him in the future! **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews. |
