Book Description

Renegades March 9, 1999

The Renegade

Cole McCord, the most dangerous man in Colorado, is a hired gun with a hardened heart. No man will ever claim his loyalty again...and no woman will ever win his love. So when he accepts headstrong Aurora Benton's offer to be her bodyguard on a treacherous cattle drive he tells her it's strictly business, but finds himself drawn against his will to this all-to-desirable temptress.

The Woman

Eastern born and bred, Aurora has never met anyone like the half-Chickasaw she's just hired. He's nothing like the lackluster Milquetoasts who've offered for her hand, and he awakens in her unbidden desires. Determined to make it to Texas to start a new life, Aurora knew from the start that she'd have to face drought, outlaws and a long, hard trail...but she never expected to face her passion for the one man she can never have.

5.0 out of 5 stars great first book forecasting a treat for romance readers, February 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Renegades: Cole (Mass Market Paperback)

All he wanted this morning in Pueblo City, Colorado was a cup of coffee. Instead a fifteen-year-old wannabe, Kid Dolby, challenged him to a gunfight. When you have Cole McCord's reputation with a gun you can expect idiots to come out of the woodwork. Just before the gunfight is to begin, a woman driving a buggy speeds into the center of the action. Cole rescues her as the Kid blasts at anything in sight before being arrested.

The surprisingly calm woman Aurora Benton offers Cole the job of being her bodyguard on a cattle drive to the Texas Panhandle. She explains that the pillar of society Lloyd Gates plans to first take the cattle away from her and then take her ranch next. Initially, Cole rejects her offer of employment, but to avoid another senseless killing of the young teenager, he agrees. On the trail, he finds himself faced with the usual perilous dangers from gunslingers, outlaws, and more sophisticated criminals, but it is the threat that Aurora poses to his heart that frightens Cole the most. She too is not immune from falling in love.

Already deservedly renowned for her tender Native American romances, Genell Dellin may have scribed her best novel to date with the exciting THE RENEGADES: COLE. The western romance is non-stop action as readers will feel they are along for more than just the ride; the audience will believe they are part of the cattle drive. The lead characters are amiable and bright and the supporting ensemble enhances the story line with color. The first novel in Ms. Dellin's "Renegade" trilogy is so good, sub-genre fans will demand Avon release book II early.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring!, March 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Renegades: Cole (Mass Market Paperback)
I normally enjoy her books. I have read all of them, but this one was just outright boring. I was truly upset that I bought it. I just hope the next one in the series is better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad really., March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Renegades: Cole (Mass Market Paperback)
This book starts out fun and rocky like those 60s cowboy movies, until it degenerates into the same old yarn of cowboy unwilling to commit into relationships, same old cattle drive stories, etc. Nothing new here.

Readable but not particularly memorable either.
