Incognito series, book six. 4.5 stars!, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Renegade's Rose (Incognito Series, Book 6) (Paperback)
The Network is the world's most covert organization. The HQ is in Chicago, underground, beneath a front company. They have unchallenged authority and skill to destroy criminals. The Network takes over where regular law enforcement leaves off. The people of this organization give up their entire lives to become agents of the Network. For them, there is no life and no love, only duty.
The leader of the Revolutionary Echelon Defenders "R.E.D." is Rex Kovac. He and his terrorist group are often referred to as the Black Pope and his blood missionaries. The Network has never been able to get close to the man. They do not even know what he look like. The only picture they have managed to get of Kovac is a blurry image of his back side. Kovac is the man that put a contract out on Emory, the former (K.I.A.) most dangerous man in the world.
Hunter Savage is the man who took over Emory's position and he is determined to earn the title of being the most dangerous man in the world. Hunter and his sister, Celine, have been with the Network since they were kids. Hunter is grateful that her field of specialty keeps her out of the field. He is not only her older brother, but he has played the role of both parents to Celine since he was seven and she was an infant. (In the Network she is the leading specialist in medical advancement; and the best neurosurgeon in the world.) When Hunter wakes up in Medical, near death, the first thing he notices is that Celine is missing. He soon learns that Kovac has kidnapped Celine (to extract the formula of a biological weapon from her) and the Network has zero intentions of trying to rescue her. Needless-to-say, still having a piece of shrapnel in his head will not stop Hunter from going AWOL to save his sister. The best idea Hunter has is to go after Tanya, Kovac's wife and most prized possession.
Tanya is a renowned belly danger. She is guarded better than even the United State's President. She has been married to Kovac for over five years now and takes care of the two children from Kovac's former marriage. Hunter does not believe Tanya is as innocent as she appears to be. And Hunter is not as indifferent to Tanya's charms are he would like to be.
***** In case you are following the series in order, this book begins one year after the last book, Under the Spell, ended. I found some parts very predicable; however, there were also some twists which took me totally by surprise. The story slows down a bit toward the middle, but this is necessary for the romance to begin and bloom. It also lets the author throw in an extra twist or two. Now if only Shannon, Angelo, and Lucy would get their own stories told. *****

Renegade's Rose, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Renegade's Rose (Incognito Series, Book 6) (Paperback)
Hunter Savage will use the last breathe in his body to save his sister from the evil clutches of Rex Kovac, known as the Black Pope. When Kovac kidnapped Hunter's sister Celine, all bets where off and any rule or regulation that stands in his way of rescuing her will be broken, including those that bind him to the Network. Celine and Hunter have both pledged their life to the crime fighting organization known as the Network, Hunter has very nearly given his life but when the Network turn their back on saving Celine, Hunter, not fully healed from a previous encounter, defies his pledge and sets out on his own even though this mission could kill him.
Hunter feels the only way to save his sister is to play Kovac's game. Hunter kidnaps Kovac's cherished wife, Tanya, a famed belly dancer. Hunter's rescue of his sister is further complicated by the unexpected and unfamiliar feelings he develops for Tanya, and he learns there is more to Tanya than meets the eye.
Renegade Rose is such a great story. The action and suspense that's expected from this series is definitely there. I felt the same adrenaline rush and edge of my seat anticipation with Renegade Rose, as with the previous books, as well as strong emotions for the characters. Karen Wiesner does a great job with surprising her readers with the unexpected and there are plenty of unexpected moments in this story. With the great writing, terrific characters and storyline the romance aspect of the story is bonus. With the lives that Tanya and Hunter lived, I could not help but root for them to find some true happiness together. I really enjoyed Renegade Rose and the entire Incognito series.
