This review is from: Renew Your Worship: A Study in Blending of Traditional and Contemporary Worship (Paperback)
The Alleluia worship series are seven courses on the subject of worship. The seven courses are divided up thirteen short and easy to understand classes or chapters. At the end of each session are review and reflection questions that really help with the whole process of thinking through worship and what we are doing as the people of God.
Renew Your Worship: A Study in the Blending of Traditional and Contemporary Worship is a more practical approach to doing worship in our time without throwing the baby out with the bath water or getting stuck in a rutted ritual. Like the previous two books in the series, this book has 13 sessions that are divided up into three parts. The first part addresses the question of why worship on Sunday? These four lessons are about the why of worship and not simply why does it take place on Sunday and not Saturday. Part 2 is titled "What Does Worship Do?" In my opinion, what is said here is great, but a whole series could be done on that topic alone. Webber has written much more on this subject in other places, but these four lessons are a good start. Part 3 is about breaking through the barriers of passive worship. Webber is convinced that worship is not a spectator sport but calls us to participate. I think this is an easy to used study series for a pastor or teacher to take the church or a class through. It would be ideal for small group study and discussion. |
