This third installment in the authors' series on the history of the Chicago Cubs follows the straightforward format of the two previous works ( The Golden Era Cubs, 1876-1940 and The New Era Cubs, 1941-1985 ). The bulk of the text is devoted to tracing players' careers, with little attention given to personal lives; the authors confine their remarks to the playing field. An appendix is replete with club records and a chronology of transactions for the period. Libraries holding the earlier books may wish to add the third. Otherwise, these brief biographies constitute a personal program for Cubs' fans, something to keep within reach as they follow the team's fortunes in the seasons ahead.
