Book Description

This past decade has been one of decline for the United States. This decade will be the decisive decade. The decisions we make and the actions we take in it will determine the future of America and the American dream. Concerned citizens understand this but they have lost trust and confidence in their leaders, institutions and the "governing elite." They are searching for a resource to help them think about and respond to this situation. Renewing the American Dream is that resource. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the American condition using a unique three part framework created by the authors. The book advances a citizen-centered agenda for change. It presents detailed recommendtions for renewing the dream and outlines actions that leaders, organizations and individuals can take to participate in the renewal process. It brings the citizen's voice and the businessperson's perspective to the forefront in the national dialogue on America's destiny.

Review

This book is a must read. It identifies many of our biggest problems and comes up with sound suggestions for solving them in a very thoughtful and bipartisan fashion. --Former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald

Islam, Munoz and Crego prove that the citizen's voice is still the most relevant in the national dialogue on America's condition. Their well reasoned and well written book is a wonderful resource that all citizens can use to move beyond anger and anxiety to constructive and positive engagement in shaping America's future. --Alan Gitelson, Professor Political Science, Loyola University, Chicago

This work is an absolute must read for all executives, legislative policy makers and citizens who are concerned about the future of our country. The author team has coupled its research with extensive hands-on experience to formulate viable options for the nation's socio-economic development. --Steve Mandes, Executive Director, National Institute for Metalworking Skills

This book highlights the fragile condition of the American Dream and the impact that has had on the working and middle class. It raises critical issues that need to be at the top of our political agenda. It should be required reading for all who want to find new solutions to move America forward. --Charles E. Snyder, President and CEO, National Consumer Cooperative Bank

My friend and Marriott Board colleague, George Munoz, and his co-authors, have put forth principles in this book about Enterprise USA that will re-energize the American Dream for the 21st Century. When my father founded Marriott International during the Great Depression, he lived the American Dream and seized the opportunity given to him by this great country. We all have the responsibility to keep that dream alive. --J. W. "Bill" Marriott, Jr.

5.0 out of 5 stars Citizens' Game Plan for the 21st Century July 19, 2010
By SAS
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Many books have come out over the past couple of years, highlighting one or more factors that have contributed to America's decline. This book does more - it not only addresses issues and problems that are now widely recognized: America's job deficit; the accelerating disappearance of our middle class; and our virtually non-existent manufacturing base, it treats these challenges in a comprehensive manner. Renewing the American Dream differentiates between policy and execution and puts forth a rational framework for restoring our country's competitive position in the world. Too many pundits blame, pontificate and accuse, these authors understand where we are and present ideas that we the people - the citizens - can execute to Renew the American Dream

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wake Up Call August 7, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is a thoughtful book. It is an important book. I think the previous reviews are accurate and I am not sure I can add much more, except to say that the content is relevant for individuals, organizations, legislators - all people who are care about the future of this country and its capacity to produce opportunity. Can we continue to harness the spirit, initiative and ambition that it will take to move America forward? It will take attention and action - and this book shapes/offers direction.
