5.0 out of 5 stars The answer that I have been seeking for ten years!!!, May 17, 2002

Words will never express how awesome this book has been for me. I give it 5 ***** because it has been confirmation to so many things I have questioned for most of my Christian life and in particular over the last ten years. Casey Treat has put it all in one place in a manner that I can read, meditate, research, rest, and eventually get the full understanding of who we truly are supposed to be as Christians. I am so thankful to know that there is more to being a saint than just accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. There is a life that we are supposed to be experiencing that will help the world see the true meaning of Christianity. If saints will be real with themselves, this world can truly be changed because those of us who profess to be Christians will change first. Us manifesting change will cause the world to see change and not just hear it via religion. I always knew the Word of God worked but I could never get the combination right and I would always hear within me that my heart was not right. My researching helped me to understand that the heart is the spirit and soul of a man. If your soul continues to be conformed to this world's way, yes you can be saved but you will continue to experience hell here on earth. That is exactly what I was experiencing but God in His infinite love directed me to a series by Creflo Dollar on renewing the mind and then this book by Casey Treat. The missing pieces have fallen in to place. To God be the glory for the great things that He has done in my life and for me!!!
The book is the truth about us being tri-part beings, spirit, soul, and body. It sheds light on God's original plan for us and how that plan has not changed. It assists you in understanding where you are (if you truly desire to know), where God sees you, and how to get to the place and life that God sees you. It shows you how to change your world towards the victory that God ordained for each and every one of us. He is no respecter of person and this book takes you along the path to the fulfillment of the scripture that states you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. It exposes the lies and the religion that has kept us bound for so long, and shows us how to manifest God's purpose in our life. I pray that this book opens your eyes to the true life that God has for you as it has for me. Thank you Casey Treat and Creflo Dollar for yielding to the Lord as His vessels.

This review is from: Renewing the Mind: The Foundation of Your Success (Paperback)
This book has changed my life and has given me a purpose and direction in my Christian walk. The reprogramming of your thought processes are paramount to anything else in your life because when your thinking lines up with Gods Word then your whole life lines up with Gods Word. Brother Treat points out in perfect detail of what needs to be done to renew the mind. If you are confused about what to do next or what Gods will is for your life then buy this book! Its teaching and principles will change your life forever. God bless.

Don't let the fact that this book has been around for ten years make you think it's not cutting edge for all Christians. It's destined to be a classic! One of the most important and life-changing books you'll ever read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written & weak thesis development, December 8, 2011
This review is from: Renewing the Mind: The Foundation of Your Success (Paperback)
After reading the reviews for this book, I purchased it in the hopes that it would give me a fresh perspective on life; sadly, this was not the case for me. I am still baffled as to why anyone would give this book a 5 star rating. Below I have listed my main issues with this book.

1. Poorly written- the author uses a casual conversational style. This type of style is typical fine with me if it is executed well. In my opinion, the author did a poor job writing in this style. The book somewhat reminded me of reading a diary of the high school student. There were several times when I felt as though he was just rambling on and on without making a point. This, as you can imagine, is very frustrating. There were also several interjections like, "Yes, I like that" etc... which probably would work if this were a speech but in writing, it was just awkward. There are also many (perhaps too many) Bible quotes. I am not opposed to quoting from the Bible, but there were some pages where a slew of Bible quotes would be presented, in which case I would prefer to just read the Bible since the Bible is at least cohesive and well written.

2. Poor thesis development- I'm 17 chapters into the book and I am still waiting for an epic "aha" moment. With 8 chapters to go, I highly doubt this is going to come about. The author seems to write a lot more about what his intentions are, but I felt as though he never really does achieve what he sets out to achieve with each chapter. Each chapter has a different title, but you essentially find the same content from chapter 3 in chapter 17-- it's just phrased differently. You find the same tired analogies e.g. the dirty diaper, and you find the same or similar Bible quotes. It might have been helpful for him to implore some DETAILED examples of real life people who have undergone a renewing of the mind and specifically, HOW they went about renewing their mind. His approach seems to come off as: read these Bible quotes and meditate on these questions and voila! Your mind will be renewed. I don't think that one size fits all with such matters. Using examples of people other than just himself could have helped to address the idiosyncrasies of his readers.

3. Over generalizing- The author does a lot of slamming more traditional forms of worship in favour of his more neo-Christian charismatic mega-church type of worship. He seems to have this idea that most Christians are happy to struggle through life and that the "traditional" Christians find church boring and gloomy. While this may be true for some Christians, I definitely would not go as far to say that MOST Christians are this way. As someone raised in a traditional church, I can testify that we believe that the Lord wants us to prosper and to rejoice in His name. There are very many strong Christians I have met who belong to Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, Anglican... churches. The author fails to understand that one does not have to attend a church with over 500 members in order to hear and understand the message. His over-generalizations definitely alienated me as a reader.

4. Intolerance- I was particularly appalled by the way the author made reference to the Hindu religion. The author was attempting to make a point that people should not worship objects, but in my opinion, he delivered the message in a way that came across as though he was mocking Hinduism for holding cows as sacred animals. The author had a jolly good rant about this which made me cringe. I am a Christian but was offended for his lack of respect for other people's beliefs. One would think that he could have exercised some religious tolerance seeing as he is a pastor. It's ironic that he speaks about not being judgmental, but then turns around and bashes Hinduism.

5. Digressions- here and there, the author makes reference to tithing. I personally did not see the need to include anything about tithing in this book as it serves no purpose in developing his thesis (in my opinion). It seems as though he has real issues with people who do not tithe; maybe this is because he is a pastor and that is partly how he makes his livelihood? I don't know, but the way he really pushed the tithing issue made me wonder about potential ulterior motives.

In summary, this book is a waste of time to read, is too "preachy" for my liking, is mildly offensive, and is poorly written. I Do not recommend this book.
