4.0 out of 5 stars Lighthearted Actioner
Most people think of Royal Canadian Mounted Police strories and films as being set in the 19th Century, rather like Canadian westerns. This is a solid 20th Century story, with Renfrew involved with cars, airplanes, and other things not normally associated with cklassic Mounties.

The story involves Renfrew, an RCMP officer, who investigates a counterfeiting...

Renfrew of the Royal Mounted, 1937 film

The story begins with a singing Mountie. A car approaches the border inspection. Another man in a station wagon has fish frozen in ice blocks. Why is he smiling? We learn what is hidden in that fish. The US Treasury Dept. will send photographs of counterfeiters to the Royal Mounted Canadian Police as part of the investigation. There is a picnic in the woods. Nearly a dozen Mounties ride up to join in for a venison meal. A fishing rod hooks a woman's dress for laughter. Barbecue sauce? Two men arrive at a luxury hotel. Mr. Bronson meets the manager's aide. They want his special artistic skills. One man takes a message to Bronson's daughter by canoe. A block of ice! The Mounties will avenge the death of this Constable. The daughter is called to Totem Pole lodge. The canoe overturns, Renfrew rescues the girl from the rapids.

"Nice day." Virginia is concerned about her weight. At night Virginia leaves with her guide. There is a surprise as to the leader of this gang of counterfeiters. George is a good friend of the police! "Nothing ever happens here." That will soon change. What is on that fake $10 bill? Sgt. Renfrew can read fine printing. He drops in at Totem Pole lodge. Renfrew borrows a motorcycle to pursue a station wagon, then checks the ice blocks. Virginia talks to her father. Nolan makes a mistake. George tells Renfrew about Indian Joe. Is this a mistake? The gang will kill anyone who gets in their way. Virginia and Bronson try to escape. The Mounties arrive to rescue them from that gas-filled room. There is good news for Virginia and her father.

This is another low-budget average story that is set in the forests of western Canada. The scenery makes it a better story. The book by Laurie York Erskine was also adapted for a radio program.

This review is from: Renfrew Of The Royal Mounted (DVD)
Most people think of Royal Canadian Mounted Police strories and films as being set in the 19th Century, rather like Canadian westerns. This is a solid 20th Century story, with Renfrew involved with cars, airplanes, and other things not normally associated with cklassic Mounties.

The story involves Renfrew, an RCMP officer, who investigates a counterfeiting ring. The method for concealing the counterfeit money is clever, and some of the characters have a bit of depth.

Renfrew is a Singing Mountie. Not all the time, but it maintains a tradition.

The film is not a heavyweight, but it's a fun watch. Even after nearly 70 years, it goes down well.
