5.0 out of 5 stars Absloutely hysterical
You'd figure after a few years on Comedy Central and even having their own feature film would slow down the crew behind Reno 911, and you'd be wrong. The fifth season of Reno 911 finds the incredibly inept deputies of the Reno Sheriff Department in more mayhem, beginning with the continuation of whether or not Garcia (Carlos Alazraqui) stole Dangle's (Thomas Lennon)...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absloutely hysterical, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Reno 911 - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
You'd figure after a few years on Comedy Central and even having their own feature film would slow down the crew behind Reno 911, and you'd be wrong. The fifth season of Reno 911 finds the incredibly inept deputies of the Reno Sheriff Department in more mayhem, beginning with the continuation of whether or not Garcia (Carlos Alazraqui) stole Dangle's (Thomas Lennon) husband, while Weigel (Kerry Kenney-Silver) tries to pan off her baby. Other developments this season include the ladies of the department get new kevlar vests that have an unexpected "enhancement", the deputies working undercover to "patrol" the Mexican border, and training policemen for Baghdad. What really makes this season stand out however are the excellent and hilarious guest stars, which include George Lopez as Reno's filthy mayor, Diedrich Bader as the "Dog: The Bounty Hunter"-type Tommy Hawk, and a hilarious Seth Green as the manager of a fast food joint that Jones (Cedric Yarbrough) and Garcia have to work for undercover. The gags are inventive and oh so funny, and five seasons later the show still manages to provide plenty of laughs. All in all, here's hoping that Reno 911 keeps up the hilarity and doesn't take a suspension from duty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Season, July 15, 2008
By
This review is from: Reno 911 - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
If you own the first four seasons, then I highly recommend adding this one to your already growing collection. There are tons of guest apperances threw out this season, if you didn't watch this season when it aired on tv, and are seeing it for the first time on this dvd set, then you'll be surprised, like I was. This set is packed with 16 great episodes, over 40 min. of extended scenes and lots more

4.0 out of 5 stars They're at it again!!!, August 6, 2008
This review is from: Reno 911 - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
Another satisfying entry in the "Reno 911" saga. Our usual gang of inept cops do their awkward best to keep crime off the streets in their fair city. By now, devout fans are probably able to predict how scenes will conclude given 4 seasons worth of similar material, but there are some fresh ideas and fun new exploration here. Be sure to add it to your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars "It's like 'Weekend at Bernie's' except you're alive and you'd rather be dead."---Trudy, October 20, 2008
By
This review is from: Reno 911 - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
I was really looking forward to season 5 because the cliffhangers from season 4 were so good. I'll admit, I was disappointed in how the cliffhangers turned out. Still, this is a good season. I like the addition of the animal shelter public service announcements. They were very funny. The hypothetical guy was used a little too much, though. I didn't find him all that funny. There are several laugh-yourself-to-tears moments in this season, including the lottery misprint, the talking stuffed bunnies, under-age groping sting, and the clown car. The bonus material is very good, too. Is it just me or is Trudy becoming more normal as the series progresses (well, relatively speaking).

Disc 1:
1. Season 4 left some awesome cliffhangers--Lt. Dangle is about to marry the man of his dreams only to have Garcia steal his man away and Wiegel has a baby courtesy of a sperm bank with the donor being one of her co-workers. The former is resolved but the latter only partially so. I was disappointed that one question will never be answered. We also get to meet Terry's fiancee--a surprisingly respectable woman. Highlight: Clemmy's lizard psa.
2. Wiegel participates in the Neighbors and Friends program. The guys get on the Tommy Hawk Bounty Hunter TV show and look like, well, what you'd expect (their revenge is very funny, though). The sheriff's dept. hires a former sex slave to run dispatch.
3. According to the commentary, this was the highest rated episode. The women get more form-fitting vests which they wear without shirts with beneficial results. Dangle finally asks Junior why he wears his vest over his shirt. An ex-con, who Dangle and Jones do not remember, comes back from prison for revenge. Question--Junior is seen with a ring and checking his breath in the bar with his co-workers. Was he going to propose to Kimball before he shot her?
4. George Lopez plays the mayor who is involved in 7 felonies. As Wiegel puts it, "His breath smelled like my Uncle Carl before he told me, 'let's keep it between the two of us.'"
5. It's coconut nut cluster selling time and Kimball and Jones find this job to be more dangerous than their regular jobs.
6. Dangle's father, who had abandoned him to start a black family in Chicago, dies and Dangle's half-siblings arrive in Reno to settle the will. Dangle gets Raineesha to pretend to be his girlfriend. Highlight: A ransom note is over-steamed and the gang has to piece together the cut-out letters to read the message.
7. Seth Green guest stars posing as the manager of a frequently-robbed fast food restaurant and makes life miserable for his new employees--Jones and Garcia working undercover.

Disc 2:
8. Junior and Garcia participate in "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors" which Dangle describes as "Burning Man for right-wing rednecks." Under-age groping sting is conducted with Trudy dressed like a school girl--that sketch brought tears to my eyes.
9. Junior conducts health inspections of brothels. A popcorn machine is set up in the precinct. Jackie the prostitute (played by Trudy Wiegel's Kerri Kenney-Silver, of course) is in the hospital. I find it strange that Garcia did not visit her as he once tried to help her. The sheriff's department becomes a safe baby surrender site.
10. The Reno sheriff's dept. trains a Iraqi police unit. Clemmy tells a group of young people the correct way to drive drunk. Dangle and Wiegel score a coke bust involving talking stuffed bunnies.
11. Trudy, Clemmy, and Jonesy think they've won the lottery and it turns into one of the funniest Reno 911 sketches ever. At the end of the episode, we see that another officer didn't hear about the lottery misprint, too, but reacts in a very uncharacteristic way. Dangle has a bad experience with a tanning bed.
12. Raineesha is featured in Strong Sister Magazine. The guys need to enforce the 6-foot from strip dance law. Trudy works undercover in a strip club.
13. An American Indian shows up looking for his daughter "among the warriors"--Trudy Wiegel. Junior tries to bust a prostitution ring running through a Thai take-out and keeps getting taken out by angry delivery girls.
14. Junior runs for Department of Animal Carcass Removal Commissioner. You get to see Junior take off his dark glasses in his campaign commercial and understand why he always wears them!

Disc 3:
15. An acting coach trains the Reno Sheriff Dept to improve their undercover work. There is another reunion between an officer and father which is even more puzzling than the previous one. Highlight: tragedy inside a clown car.
16. The dept. designs a float for the Law Enforcement Parade in Carson City which leads to a cliffhanger. Trudy gets extra friendly with a police dog.
Extras: Psychological evaluations of all the officers and extended scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best season of all, April 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reno 911 - The Complete Fifth Season (DVD)
Of all the Reno 9-11 seasons, this was the best, taken in total. It was the last year that the original cast ensemble performed; the next season 2 of the originals were replaced.

Of all the shows in this season, there were perhaps 1 or 2 that were short of greatness; the rest were comic brilliance. This season had them putting up with an insufferable restaurant manager(Seth Green in a perfect turn as agitator), a corrupt mayor, chauvinistic body armor...for female cops only, questionable stakeout(Trudy entrapping bus riders, or doing her best at it), and best of all, an Iraqi police training contingent(who used the translation problem to great comedic effect), etc.
This year also had as a sidelight a Gilligan Island(Mary Ann vs. Ginger) transformation, where the homely Trudy Wiegel played the vamp(no longer the blonde bimbo's domain, due to a weight problem).

If you loved this series or simply love good comedy, you must get this season's disk.

This show is one of my favorite comedies on tv. The thing that makes the show so great is that it is improv and being someone who is an actor and teaches improv I can tell you that improv is usually funnier than something that is scripted.
