This book was splendid! It was georgeously created, and it the care the author and editor put into the making of this book shows on every page. The thing that makes this book unique is that every painting is shown IN COLOR--not black and white sections taking up half the book, etc. The paintings are also put on the page in a way that makes you focus on the genius of each and every one. It makes you realize that Renoir truly was a genius in his time. He was an original and stylish painter, and this book is a great tribute to him and his art---as well as a book that anyone, with art history knowledge or not, would enjoying having on both his/her coffee table and as a book to read and treasure!

This is a masterful book. The text is very easy to read and follow, and is very insightful for both the life of Renoir and his works. Really, though, this book shines in its color prints of the artworks. The large size of the text allows for larger prints of the paintings, which are a good representation of the varied works of Renoir. Additionally, there are several "detail" prints that really are the next best thing to being in a museum for really looking at details of style and technique.

Highly recommended if you like Renoir or Impressionism in general.

I got this book for a relative for Christmas and am delighted! This is one of the best books in quality and content I have ever seen on Renoir, a number of whose Paintings I have seen on exhibit in Museums.

The Book is jam packed with high quality reproductions of his most famous impressionist paintings and contains a good sampling of several of his realist, or neo-classical styled paintings, so that his genius as a true master painter and artist is evident to the novice reader that may not be familiar with the body of Renoir's work. This is a truly great value and wonderful and entertaining Coffee Table Book, which I recomend highly to anyone wanting an easy to browse through art book and a solid introduction to the artist who in my opinion is the greatest master of the style.

i was happy with this purchase....the book is beautiful and full of full page photos of the paintings. the list price for it is 19.95 and it would be worth that- i was looking for a renoir book with lots of nice large color plates- this was it, but if you buy it for over that on amazon- you are paying above the asking price written on the inside book jacket......
