With all the new products on the market today, ie. glass tile, multiple body sprays ect. This is a pretty basic look, even somewhat dated, more of a layman's guide than a pro's guide. My summary - Well done, but not really a Pro's Guide.

This book did an excellent job of covering fixture and plumbing basics and it had a fantastic section on tiling. If that is what you need then this is a very good book. If you are planning a bathroom full gut and rebuild as I did, it is not so great as there is very little on framing, subfloors, electrical, etc.

I read through this book before a bathroom remodel. It covers everything from figuring out if your floor has too much flex to creating your own shower pan.

Very disappointing due to outdated material. The book was published in 2003 so my bad for buying. The shower section describes waterproofing a shower pan with a vinyl membrane and mud, and waterproofing the shower walls with roofing felt (shudder) rather than the newer styrofoam bases and Kerdi-style waterproofing membranes. There is no mention of newer and better materials, such as Schluter Ditra isolation membranes for tile work. There are ten pages devoted to plastic tub/showers. No talk of gutting a bathroom to the framing, drywall types such as paperless or even blue and green, Kerdi Board, insulation, vapor retarders, newer paints like Bennie Moore Aura Bath & Spa. No mention of plumbing other than faucets and toilet installation. The information on underfloor heating is well out of date. Discussion of lighting has nothing on technologies newer than halogens and rope lights (no l.e.d.'s, or dimmable fluorescents). Overall a very superficial effort, with some good information on tiling and caulking techniques (some things don't change). You can do much better with books on the individual subjects, like Rex Cauldwell's excellent plumbing and electrical books (Cauldwell wrote the vent fan chapter in this book which is good except that Broan and NuTone no longer make very good fans) and several very good "For Pros by Pros" books on tiling and other topics. Just make sure you are getting something published or updated in the last 2-3 years and preferably on one topic as opposed to a compendium!

Not nearly as good as "Plumbing a House", but probably due to the fact that there are just to many different ways to finish a bathroom. Some good concepts in here but not a whole lot that you couldn't get off the intertubewebz. Other thoughts: good reading while you are in the bathroom...

Basically the book sais: dont be cheap on bathroom since those sell the house. If you flip houses...this book will help you creating fancy, nice looking and cheap bathrooms that will sell your house. Excellent.

Information in this book was a great help and saved me a lot of money building the tile shower I just finished.
